Hello Indeepdark,

the following content you uploaded is not free and therefore had to be deleted:

several images used under "Fair Use"

The Wikimedia Commons (this website) only hosts media files which can be used for any purpose, including:

  • use in any work, regardless of content
  • creation of derivative works
  • commercial use
  • free distribution

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on the Wikimedia Commons. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on the Wikimedia Commons: "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.

Please make sure that you only upload works you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Again, please read through Commons:Licensing, which is quite crucial to understanding how the Wikimedia Commons works. Thanks for your contribution, and please do leave me a message if you have further questions. --Matt314 22:40, 2 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi ! Well, I know there was a problem with the licencing of theese pictures, I wrote "Fair Use" in order to have a little time to solve the problem. In fact, I can't found licencing about "promotional material". The four pictures I upload under Fair Use licencing have been made in order to promote a music festival. You can download it for free on the official website of the event (http://www.nuits-sonores.com/2006/nuitssonores/archives_home.php, look for "voir le visuel"), and they are intended to be distribuate as much as possible. For me, writing an article about an event can't be complete without including this kind of stuff, wich are the story of the "look" of the event. So can you help me founding the correct licencing ? -- indeepdark 08:24, 3 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hi Indeepdark! Promotional images are usually copyrighted and not released under a free license. Even the image is meant to be downloaded without charge is is not free enough for Commons. Only images that are allowed to be modified, freely distributed and that can be used by others (also commercially) can be included. Thus, you would need a permission of the copyright holder to release the images under a license that is suitable for Commons. --Matt314 11:53, 3 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
