Regarding File:Vinitha.jpg

edit

Namaste,

I hope this message finds you well.

So, I wanted to enhance the page Vinitha on Wikipedia by adding a picture of her. My approach was to reach out to the author, requesting permission to feature a photograph with proper accreditation, inspired by a similar practice observed on File:Anita-nair-portrait-wikipedia.jpg. However, to my dismay, it appears this method may not align with best practices. (Please refer to File:Vinitha.jpg for context.). To address this, I've taken the initiative to request that the author instruct their photographer to send formal consent via email, which he has sent already. Hopefully, this will rectify the situation satisfactorily.

On a related note, I seek guidance regarding the usage of photographs from external sources, such as news websites or blogs, for Wikipedia. For instance, would it be acceptable to utilize an image sourced from a website like http://www.saffrontree.org/2015/11/in-land-of-stick-figures.html, even in the absence of explicit Creative Commons licensing?

Your insights on these matters would be immensely valuable. Thank you for your time and consideration. Theshubhz (talk) 12:23, 22 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

The outstanding issue is that licensing the file only under the GFDL is not permitted per Commons:Licensing#GNU Free Documentation License. As such, I've listed the file for deletion. For any image published online, you must have the copyright holder send in a permission statement unless the place it is published in explicitly specifies an acceptable license (example: https://flickr.com/photos/34523388@N06/53167761891 specifies CC BY 2.0). — JJMC89 22:53, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
