Well, looking into Category:Czech Republic, ther is no obvious pattern, there some categories Czech xxx, some xxx of Czech Republic, some xxx of THE Czech Republic. I opted for Czech maps (as well as Czech towns, Czech monuments, Czech coats of arms) to avoid this a bit chaotic situation as I'm well aware how strong dislike there is on Wikipedia against otherwise correct term Czechia (thus Maps of Czechia etc.) I guess Category names should be as short as possible.—Caroig 26 June 2005 20:57 (UTC)

Czechia etc. edit

Well, neither am I, but I know from my personal experience that the English don't use the word Czechia because the Czechs always speak about their country as the Czech Republic (I was asked many times in English and Spanish speaking countries why there's not a single-word name for the country). Whenever I use the word Czechia here on Wikipedia, even as an alternative to the Czech Republic, someone deletes it, and it's never a native speaker but a Czech.

I would have followed suit and used Category:Maps of Czechia (which would be exactly what you advocate for) but I didn't do that anticipating a very negative reaction to that. The Czech republic is a long name for the country, whilst Czechia the short one and only correct. People who use the Czech Republic as a short form are not right. My solution was just to avoid anarchy. — Caroig 27 June 2005 05:32 (UTC)

You said that you are in contact with some ESA representatives that allowed you to reuse this image under a free license (saying that everyone can use it for any purpose be it commercial or not and modify it). As I have been long time in contact with high ESA representatives and was trying a long long time to achieve exactly this and know how complicated the internal matter of ESA is I'm a little bit surprised how this can be possible (and by the way the background of the spiegel story you mention is a little bit different but I won't reveal it, as it is ESA internals... and apart from that the new policy was not about licensing but about release dates and which stuff to release, as ESA did not release raw images upt to that date). So can you tell me from your efforts and whom did you get in contact with as I think this is an important issue not to duplicate efforts. Arnomane 22:38, 23 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
