Mikelima~commonswiki
Hi, you stated that "The game is release with a non-commercial, free use license." But images on the Commons must allow all use, including commercial. If you upload an image that is from a game that is licensed under the GPL or a similar free license, please tag them {{Free screenshot}}. Images tagged {{Screenshot}} are subject to speedy deletion (as the tag clearly states). Thanks, pfctdayelise (translate?) 10:34, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
Well, here is the program copyright:
/* * Copyright (c) 1997 Ben Harrison, James E. Wilson, Robert A. Koeneke * * This software may be copied and distributed for educational, research, * and not for profit purposes provided that this copyright and statement * are included in all such copies. Other copyrights may also apply. */
This may or may not be sufficient, I'm no expert. Should I try to contact the maintainer to get a permission? That may be doable, but I wonder if it is really needed.
In my opinion, there is no real graphic to talk about in the screenshot, it's just a computer generated pattern. It's a bit like having to ask the author of a Mandelbrot set plotting program for the permission to publish the generated image.

Hi Mikelima, thanks for your quick reply. The copyright statement only really allows for "educational purposes", so I don't think it's strong enough. And no, it's probably not worth contacting them.
I would be surprised if there wasn't a free equivalent. It might be worth hunting around for one. Be sure that they're licensed under the GPL or a similar open source license. Or perhaps someone with technical know-how might be able to create it themselves. Try looking for similar images, and then check if they're self-created. You could then ask that person to create this image for you (hey, the worst they can do is say no).
Thanks again for your co-operation. Copyright is a tricky (and frequently irritating) beast. pfctdayelise (translate?) 13:32, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
- Hmm, interesting. Good to see they're aware of the issue and trying to do something about it. But until the whole thing's GPL I think we just have to wait...
- It's just a mathematical figure, right? Well, they're not copyrightable (I hope!???!). Certainly if you draw one by hand, it's fine. It just like when you draw one with someone's software, they have certain rights over that specific representation of it... but not all representations. pfctdayelise (translate?) 14:28, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed
editHello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Mikelima. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Mikelima~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
