Categories
editHi. Thanks for your work! Note that when creating new categories, include them in category trees - often they are not just subcategories of one category. For example you created Category:Damaged Baptist churches in New Orleans, and properly made it a subcategory of Category:Baptist churches in New Orleans - but the existence of that category suggests there should be categories for damaged Baptist churches elsewhere, as well as damaged churches of other faiths in New Orleans. (If you care to work through post-Hurricane Katrina flood photos, you can find many examples.) I created Category:Damaged_Baptist_churches for you. I reverted edit removing categorization from File:FEMA - 19863 - Photograph by Andrea Booher taken on 10-18-2005 in Louisiana.jpg. Note the church is seen in the background, with the "Baptist Church" lettering clearly readable. Thanks for your attention. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 15:12, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
When there is a category for a specific church by name, please do not remove that category! Your edit [1] reverted. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 15:16, 22 July 2021 (UTC) Similarly [2]. Is there some reason you do not want the churches identified? -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 15:17, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
- You have twice removed Category:Churches in the Lower 9th Ward, New Orleans from File:7Feb06Low9thChurchMorningStarBaptist.jpg. Why? -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 22:57, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
- I think it is completely relevant and appropriate and I would like to yet again put it back. What is the problem? -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 22:59, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
- I have again restored the category at the photo page. Please explain what your objection is before removing it again. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 22:59, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
- Hello Infrogmation (talk · contribs). It is not recommended to put a category for each element present in a photo. Example: Fence, sky, trees... Categories are used to identify the main subject of a photo. See Categories#Over-categorization. Thanks for your help. --ServB1 (talk) 17:44, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
- I'm familiar with that guideline. I don't think it's being violated. The category gives better information on the location of the church, in addition to the faith. If you have some problem with the existence or use of Category:Churches in the Lower 9th Ward, New Orleans you could list the category at Commons:Categories for discussion - however I you will find that there are a good number of other well established categories similarly listing churches by sections of cities for larger cities. I see nothing objectionable in the concept. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 20:16, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
