Hi Paddy, thank you for your message. I'll get back to the people who gave me this picture and ask them whether their permission includes (eventual) commercial use. They are a hobbyists' group who are trying to keep this old train running. On the Dutch Wikipedia, I have added a link to their website. I expect no problems, but thanks anyway! Hi Paddy, I just received an email from Thomas Boellaart, maker of the picture and a member of the team that keeps this train running. Although he was not really enthusiastic about allowing for commercial uses, he agrees with it as long as his name is mentioned as the author. I have sent him a reply saying that in my opinion this means that one of the CC-licences would apply, and asking him to confirm this. I expect that this matter will be cleared up in a few days now. Hi Paddy, I just receieved an email from Thomas Boellaart, who took this picture, that he explicitly agrees with the use of the CC by SA-licence tag. I have added this this the page. I think this means that the status is OK now, but of course I leave it to you to remove the "licence is pending"-text. If you want, I could quote from the email-correspondence on the discussion page of this picture, but since the correspondence is in utch, I'm not sure whether that adds very much... Ich gucke in die history wer den Antrag gestellt hat, lese mir die Begründung durch und wenn es ein Diskussionsseite gibt so lese ich auch die. Es kann aber vorgekommen sein, dass ich die Diskussionsseite übersehen habe. Das kommt vor, wenn der Antrag von der selben Person, wie dem Ersteller der Bildseite ist und die Begründung schlüssig ist. Sollte dies der Fall sein tut es mir Leid. --Paddy 18:18, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Mir geht es konkret um die von dir gelöschten Artikel Rheinstein Castle und Nuerburg Castle, für die mit der Begründung, es gäbe einen neuen Artikel, die Schnelllöschung beantragt wurde. Den später erstellten, neuen Artikel gab es auch; mit identischem Inhalt, aber mit 'nem deutschen Lemma, was ich für die internationalen Commons nicht unbedingt für angebracht halte, zumal ja gerade genau darüber noch diskutiert wird. Es wäre fein, wenn du dich dazu durchringen könntest, diese Artikel mit dem englischen Lemma wieder herzustellen. -- Gruß Sir Gawain 18:57, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I think that it's most appropriate to use english article titles in the Wikimedia commons as long as there is an english name for the city, castle etc. e.g. most English speaking people know Cologne but not Köln. Aber hier ein anderes Thema: Ich brauche Dich als Hannoveraner mal in der Realwelt. Ich habe mich gerade für den Schreibwettbewerb mit dem Artikel Sachsenross angemeldet. Da brauchen wir noch Bilder. Da gibt es doch bei Euch in Hannover irgendwo so eine Steinstatue von einem Pferd. Steht die vor dem Landtag, oder wo? Könntest Du da mal ein "exzellentes" Bild machen? Da steht meines Wissens kein Baum im Weg. Oder gibt es in irgendwelchen hannöverschen Porzellanläden diese berühmten Porzellanpferdchen, die die Landesregierung immer verschenkt? Bild aus der englischen Wikipedia

Hallo, ich habe ein tolles Bild in der englischen Wikipedia gefunden [2], das ich gern für meinen Artikel "Sachsenross" verwendet hätte. Zwei Fragen:

1) Wie geht das technisch? Muss ich das ganz normal auf meinen Rechner runterladen und dann wieder hochladen? Oder kann man das irgendwie eleganter machen, quasi "querladen"?

2) Das Bild ist nicht nicht nach GNU-FDL lizenziert. Die faseln da was von "fair use". Wie gehen wir damit in der deutschen Wikipedia um? Kennst Du da einen echten URV-Guru?--62.158.38.50 16:42, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC) Rabe!

Tux.png deletion

What exactly was wrong with the license of Image:Tux.png that it had to be deleted? User:Dittaeva has pointed out on my talk page that the image no longer works (I used it in English and Polish Wikipedia articles about Tux and Linux) but I am not sure about the reason of its deletion and why only the transparent version had to be removed, while all of the other ones are still available in the Tux gallery. hi paddy, lass du bei de-3 die -3 weg... denn du sprichst deutsch doch als muttersprache. Hi Paddy, von wegen kein "exzellentes Bild". Immerhin hat es Dein Sachsenross in die Mitte des Titelbildes des WikiReaders "Schreibwettbewerb 2005" geschafft, quasi als "Eyecatcher". Glückwunsch! Ein Foto von mir ist übrigens auch auf der Titelseite, und zwar das Bild ganz oben links. Das habe ich srbauer für sein Vietnam Veterans Memorial gestiftet. Botwork

Hi, zunehmend gibt es das Problem, dass POTD's sich wiederholen, da bei den Bildern nachdem sie angezeigt wurden nichts mehr darauf hinweist, dass sie bereits POTD waren. Aus diesem Grund hat User:Jcornelius gestern das Template Template:Wpotd erstellt. Jetzt wäre es schön wenn alle bisherigens POTD's mit diesem Tag ausgestattet werden können. Images deleted

You deleted Image:Braszkiewicz Daria 01.jpg, Image:Braszkiewicz Daria 02.JPG and Image:Braszkiewicz Daria 05.jpg only one day after they were listed at Commons:Deletion requests. They all had licens information, albeit in Polish, and it is now claimed that the images were uploaded with the copyright holder's consent. Bitte meine ( Mg-K alias M. Klüber ) Bilder nicht weiter löschen bzw. gelöschte wiederherstellen. Ich bin nicht tagtäglich hier, um solche Dinge zu überwachen, sondern mache das freiwillig und zum Spaß. Wenn es hier Streß gibt, höre ich lieber auf. Den hab ich anderswo zu Genüge. Too quick on the trigger (deleting images)

I uploaded four pics to the Child Art page but Duesentrieb tells me it was you who has since deleted two of them. This is in contradiction to the Commons guidelines, which state:

Material would be eligible for inclusion in the Commons if it is useful to at least one Wikimedia project. This includes plausible future usefulness.

The images were linked to the Child Art category (which they are), and one has already been used on the Wikipedia Child art page, which also links to this category.

Hezký den, byl to taky Image:Wikinews-logo-textless-35px.png, i nějaké jiné loga, za které možná nemůžeš ty, ale některý z tvých kolegů. Ale tím se nezabývej, už to bylo opraveno. Mluvil jsem spíš do budoucna, abychom předešli podobným problémům, zkus používat Check-usage nebo něco podobného (i když vím, že to není moc rychlé a pohodlné). Revert

Hi Paddy. I reverted you where you removed the {{Redundant}} tag from four logos. Even if a logo is used in a lot of places, it is still useful to have the redundant tag on there, so that users will know to use the other image instead. I put them on User:Paddy/TODO because they are IMHO highly critical! I did not want anyone to make the same mistake that I did ;-) And almost certaily they are used in Wiktionary too. I am not a fan of having any mor categories. I think about it. --Paddy 21:31, 10 August 2005 (UTC)

Here are two options. If you put [[:Category:Deleted duplicates, {{CURRENTMONTH}}-{{CURRENTYEAR}}]] in Template:Deleted duplicate, then every image will be in the current month and year category. But, because of MediaWiki bugs, each image will appear in the month and year that the image description page was last saved (which would mostly be when the {{Deleted duplicate}} template got applied). That might be good enough.

A more reliable method is to have Template:Deleted duplicate take a currentmonth and currentyear parameter. So you'd have to write

{{deleted duplicate|08|2005|IMAGE=foo|USER=bar}}

or

{{deleted duplicate|{{subst:CURRENTMONTH}}|{{subst:CURRENTYEAR}}|IMAGE=foo|USER=bar}}

Hi, about this photo. If I had known that this was a photo from de: and that the photographer him/herself had uploaded it there I wouldn't have asked User:¡0-8-15!. I changed the description to make this clearer and added the image history, but for some reason you reverted my changes, why? It is my understanding that GFDL requires the image history to be preserved. I know this creates extra work for no purpose so I never use it myself for my own photos. Manipulate child art?

Hi Paddy. I'm a bit late to the discussion here, but on the deletion request you said 'visably modified by the parents'.

I can assure you the pictures look exactly as the child drew them. What makes you say they've been modified?

Why did you delete the delete tag from the photography: Image:Karl XI-staty, Göteborg.jpg? I have explain my opinion on the image talk page. I think my request fits the nonsense descibed by the speedy delete process, since there is no wiki project using this photo and the photo Image:Karl IX-staty, Göteborg.jpg is the correct one to be used by wiki projects. Indeed, the photo shows Karl IX's statue, Idarvol 20:07:37, 2005-08-29 (UTC)

Hmm, but they claim that it is a fair use, also discussed in w:Wikipedia:Logos. However, I'm not sure about conflict between fair use and GFDL. --Ans 14:51, 31 August 2005 (UTC)

The logo is actually copyrighted and therfore can not be used on commons. The en WP does not have an enforced free-only images policy (yet)! So they use it and claim fair use. But I do not have any details on en WP policies. --Paddy 15:04, 31 August 2005 (UTC)
