Thanks for fixing the template PD-Ugglan. I couldn't do it myself, but hoped someone else would notice it and fix it :-) / Fred Chess 10:09, 30 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Deleting Categories

Hi Rooivalk, just noticing that you are fixing the categories on my image uploads, forgive my ignorance (I'm new to Wikipedia) but should I not add categories like Aves in the first place? Appreciate your assistance but I'm just a bit puzzled about their necessity. Are there some guidelines for category usage? Aviceda 02:48, 19 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Aviceda, thanks for uploading your images it’s great to see new quality images and some new species in the Aves category.
Ideally each species should be in its own category, but not all of these categories exist yet. If all media was listed in parent and other upper level categories, top level categories would become bloated and very difficult to maintain. Recently I have been been going through the Aves and Birds categories and 'moving'(re-categorising) media down to the lowest existing category in the taxonomical tree.
Most if not all your images have been categorised in Aves and by the species name, this has been a great help. I have noticed that you have also been adding your images to the wikipedia articles, this and the uploading of each image must be quite a task. To prevent the process from becoming any more tedious or prolonged for you having to search for the lowest category, I, and I’m sure other users, will not mind sorting them.
In conclusion continuing to categorise your images with Aves and species name is good, it places the image in the species categories if it exists or enables the sorters (me) to find them easily --Rooivalk 22:01, 19 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, it's nice of you to explain these things, I find some of this WP stuff quite difficult to understand.Aviceda 02:24, 20 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
