The issue here is compliance with licence conditions. Wikimedia Commons allows users to upload photos on a licence that states You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author. I uploaded 30 photos of players at Wimbledon 2010 on that licence, specifying "Copyright Rowland Charles Goodman; may be used provided copyright attribution is given". However I found that users on English Wikipedia refused to abide by the licence, quoting a document in English Wikipedia :en:Wikipedia:Manual of Style (captions). I was told that the licence conditions were "unacceptable". I have been twice advised by users that I should either accept (i) that the licence condition will not be respected, or (ii) have the images deleted. (The history of the discussion spans various user talk pages and the relevant MOS talk page, and comments made when people are editing articles. But if you want an example of the difficulties I have had, I suggest you look at English Wikipedia Irina_Khromacheva article history.)

I don't want the images deleted, but if the choice is between (i) having the licence conditions breached and (ii) deleting them, then they must be deleted.

Since I made the 30 deletion requests. Various users have restored statements required by the licence conditions on some articles that use the photographs, e.g. :en:Kevin Krawietz, or removed the photos from articles e.g. :en:Irina_Khromacheva, and have stated a discussion page on Commons.
