Al Vandenberg

Dear Waterborough, Thanks for replacing Category:Al Vandenberg with File:MichaelCooper1967BenMerk.jpg. There was a reason for the removal, however. Photographer Garry Rigby (who shot the 2010 photo of Vandenberg) was asked by the sons of Vandenberg to remove (the caption of) the 1967 photo, because they didn't recognize their father. See also the talk page of Al Vandenberg. The original at Dutch National archives doesn't identify the person, so the identification of the guy with the curly hair as Vandenberg must have been done by me in Dec. 2014, on the basis of an external source. I will be searching for the source (pre-2015) in the coming days, but perhaps you know? (On the basis of facial similarity the 1967 Vandenberg could have developed into the 2010 Vandenberg, but I am not his son, so I am inclined to believe the opposing faction.) What do you think? Hello Vysotsky, the easiest way to come to a decision is to ask the sons of Al Vandenberg for a verifiable picture of their father taken in the late sixties. In the meanwhile watch this film footage with Brian Jones, Michael Cooper and a third person meeting the Maharishi in September 1967 in Bremen. The third person is obviously a professional photographer. Rolling Stones expert Felix Aeppli notes this person to be Al Vandenberg. Greetings from Waterborough (talk) 17:58, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

Dear Waterborough, It took me a few hours and several emails, but I'm quite positive that I found the name of the guy I originally identified as Al Vandenberg. The name of the man with the curly hair and round glasses is Shepard Sherbell, photographer and writer. I found several references to him from 1967 or later, most obvious one being this: Stones Club Aachen. The original clue came from Felix Aeppli, whom I also contacted. I will change all attributions containing Al Vandenberg in Anefo photographs to Shepard Sherbell, rename one or two photographs and replace or remove all photographs that are now in wrong Wikipedia articles. Hello Vysotsky, i suppose you are right. Congratulations. Here is a Getty photo showing Jones and Cooper in a taxi on the way to the Concertgebouw. The contributor is Shepard Sherbell, most probabely the third man of the group. And here is another photo contributed by Shepard Sherbell. The photographer was wearing trousers with stripes as you can see at the bottom of the photo. The third man was also wearing trousers with stripes as you can see in this photo. Yes, the photographer Shepard Sherbell must be the one with the glasses and the curly hairs. Waterborough (talk) 08:06, 29 September 2019 (UTC)

Wendingen

Dear Waterborough, The art journal Wendingen is indeed a fascinating treasure trove. As you can see, I am currently busy making the categorisation of the images more specific, so all images will be in chronological order. In this way, people will be able to choose more easily between the different versions (colour, resolution) of these journal covers. Vysotsky (talk) 23:43, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

In my younger days i discovered Wendingen in a book about graphic design. I saw the original issues at the Rijksmuseum and the cover art at the Stedelijk Museum i suppose. There are two prints of art covers on the wall in my bureau. Now i wrote the missing german article. Good luck with your plan to bring all images in chronological order. AI restoration question

Hello, can I ask if you're using elements of AI when restoring some of the photographs that you've been working on? I'm a little puzzled as to what's happening in with the face of File:Equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius revised.jpg, and wondering if that's a deliberate aesthetic based on other versions of the statue, or an AI stepping in to help fix the skin colour and eye shape as if it were fixing up a photo of a person. Commons is still discussing how best to handle AI content, but there's an emerging consensus at Commons:AI-generated_media#Categorization_and_templates suggesting that it should be clearly labelled. Adding the {{AI upscaled}} template to the file page (ideally specifying the software used, eg. {{AI upscaled|software=Remini}}) is probably the easiest way to do it. {{Retouched picture}} with an explanation in the template, I suppose.

But the intention of {{AI upscaled}} is that it covers any situation where an AI has added new content that wasn't previously present in the image, even if the pixel size of the image is unaltered or smaller.
