Very true! Unfortunately, this is an old problem on FPC. Too many voters who have never tried photographing under difficult conditions, or have no proper understanding of what can be done technically, will think that all photos should have the same quality as a well-lit, stacked church façade or a studio photo. --Cart (talk) 20:01, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The Leica Super-Elmar 21mm has an extremely low amount of distortion (virtually close to none). Please keep in mind that it's an old building. Oh, also: a good friend showed me this view.   • Thanks to SHB2000 for restoring the latest version. @Suresh Kumar Vakalapudi: You should also restore your other two photos that were already marked as quality images. Not only did you add a signature, but you also reduced the resolution so much that both images are only a few kilobytes in size due to very low resolution and high compression: Photos 01 and 02.   •   Info And just to explain this properly: Modern cameras are programmed to average the brightness of the scene to a middle gray, resulting in snow appearing dull and gray rather than bright and white. To correct this, the photographer has to dial in (some cameras have an extra wheel for this) a stop or so of exposure compensation to instruct the camera to increase the exposure, making the snow appear natural. Applying exposure compensation results in a well-exposed image where the snow retains its bright, white appearance without being washed out or appearing gray.   •   Comment Thanks to Frank for the thoughtful review. I just opened the image in PS and noticed that the sRGB profile is not assigned. This can make a big difference in how the image looks in different browsers. @Milseburg: If you are going to develop the Raw file again with exposure adjustments, exporting it in the sRGB profile would be a good choice. I might have overdone it with saturation. Following your suggestion, here is a new version with less saturation in red channel and tweaked temperature/tint. I don’t want to go any further as it will make it look bleak. I specifically reprocessed this file in newer version of Lightroom to get more true to life appearance. To me it looks golden/orange to match the last moments of the golden hour before sunset. I think it is closer to the original light as the sunset colors can be intense. Also newer versions have more detail and dynamic range. The original is 10+ years old and was batch-processed with older software and original temperature settings that may be wrong. --Argenberg (talk) 22:12, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

F. Riedelio, do you want to take over the nomination from Yann? You don't have any current nominations yourself so you can do that and let the nom continue until the end of the voting period if you like. If you say yes, I'll fix the code for the takeover for you. Also, you should not have uploaded the cup with coffee over the original photo, but instead uploaded it as a separate new file especially since the empty cup file has been assessed as a QI. This is a too big change. The empty cup image is valuable for the wiki project too, we need both. The filled in cup should have been offered as an 'Alternative' on this nom, or perhaps as a completely new nom.   •   Oppose Only 2,797 × 1,865 pixels and the bird in this image is very small. The background is too dominant in my opinion. Useful document, but not all the useful images on Commons should be featured. For a FP of a bird, you need at least to be able to see some fine details of the animals at full resolution, not only the branches where it lives.     Thank you for your review. In my opinion it can not be expected the same level of detail for a small and shy bird where there is only a few seconds window to take a picture of it without possibility to go closer to it compared to pictures of still objects. Also, we have FP pictures of birds that have the same if not less definition than this one : 1, 2.   • When comparing the size in pixels of the two images you give, the first one is 3 times larger, and the second one 2 times. So both may actually have more definition. Moreover, almost all the birds in the FP galleries are much larger than this one. The possibility to get closer is also very subjective. The more time you spend to capture a specific animal, the more opportunities you get. But this same day you also captured photos of Chimpanzees. Useful photo for Wikipedia, but when zooming in, it's not a FP in my opinion -- Basile Morin (talk) 02:35, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Small passerines like this one are among the most difficult subjects for bird photographers. They're skittish and notoriously hard to photograph.   • It's a matter of resources. Harrison's lens costs about ten times more than Giles's. I think it's a bit unfair to other bird photographers that such expensive equipment should set the "standard" for FPs. We can only be grateful that people with very high-end cameras and lenses donate some photos to Commons, but I don't think they should set the bar for all the FPs in their special fields.
