Welcome to my user page! I am a Swedish Wikimedian of 22 years. Heraldry and vexillology are amongst my greatest interests, and as such, much of what I do here is related to those fields. Feel free to look around, but keep in mind that my user pages are under construction.

Competencies edit

As a user of and contributor to Wikimedia Commons, this section is meant to give an insight as to what relevant technical and artistic abilities I might have.

Vector graphics edit

When using digital images to depict different non‐photographic material, vector graphics are in many situations superior. Being someone that is interested in producing one form of such material (digital images of flags and heraldic devices to be precise), I have wound up learning vector image editing on a basic level. I am basically self‐taught, and simply dissecting and examining existing vector files from Commons has been very paedagogical, helping me understand the structure of vector images, and how they work. Below are three images that I have produced, intended to showcase my basic capabilities.

The two leftmost flags demonstrate one method of creating vectorizations that I often employ: tracing. It may seem far from impressive, but these two examples are nonetheless probably the ones that I currently am the most proud of. While I recognize the value in drawing images from scratch, tracing can in some situations be the preferable option, such as when a vectorization is intended to match an original design closely. I have however noticed that my artistic abilities are lacking to such a degree that when I trace originals that aren't already highly polished, the result often winds up looking lousy, as I trace the original too exactly and am unable to make needed improvements.
When it comes to drawing entirely from scratch, the rightmost flag is for the time being the best example which I can showcase, which perhaps sadly does say a bit. The only good thing I could claim is that when working like this, the resulting construction is decently clean, at least. What I would like to learn in the future in order to improve includes constructing more mathematically precise shapes, optimizing structure, and coding files by hand, rather than using an image editor.

Bitmap graphics edit

Due to my work on Commons mostly being related to flags and heraldry, for which vector graphics are in many cases preferred, bitmap/raster graphics are something that I don't do super often. When I do, I use GIMP, but I would not say that I am very proficient. Simply put, my capabilities when it comes to bitmap image editing are quite rudimentary. I will give one example of editing that lies within my comfort zone.

The image to the right is not one that I have drawn myself, although I do wish that I could draw that well. I did however composite that file from three other, prae‐existing files. The mural crown was taken from one file, the legend from another one, and from yet another one came everything else. These elements were put together to achieve the shown image.

Photography edit

While my main focus may not be photography, it still is something that I occasionally dabble in. Despite having taken a course in the subject during gymnasium (during which I did learn more about various technical and artistic aspects), I would be hesitant to say that I am meaningfully above average. Postprocessing is not something that I really know how to do; so with my current skill set, the pictures I take are essentially finalized on‐site. Nonetheless, to give others an idea of what level I actually am on, and to let other users judge for themselves, I present a gallery with some pictures that I have taken.

These were taken with a Nikon D3300, which I no longer have access to, but used during the aforementioned photography course.

The camera that I do currently possess is nothing fancier than the one built into my Nokia 8.1. As such, the following images might better represent what I at the moment am able to produce.
