I cannot convert images to SVG

Despite your tagging to my uploaded Taiwanese road signs, I am unable to convert images to SVG, nor can I save images as SVG. I already replaced 187 GIFs with PNGs, but I cannot bother replacing them again.--Jusjih 12:10, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

How many SVGs have you made? How did you convert? While the new SVG that you show me is clearer, I cannot do it myself, so unless you know someone willing to convert, please have him/her contact me. Otherwise, tagging convertions to SVG is NOT okay to me while I still have hundreds of images to upload. You cannot read Chinese and I cannot upload SVGs mean that for now, I can only continue uploading PNGs or wait until my computer is capable of supporting SVGs. That will not happen within three months.--Jusjih 14:22, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
Or I can put off further uploading for three months until I can ascertain whether my computer supports SVG or not. If not, I will continue uploading the rest in PNG, though anyone capable may offer to convert to SVG. Now I am deleting my own GIF duplicates. After I finish uploading Taiwanese road signs and markings, I plan to upload Macanese and American road signs, which are also in the public domain.--Jusjih 16:51, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
Are Illustrator and Inkscape different browsers? I usually use Mozilla FireFox and rarely Internet Explorer.--Jusjih 18:14, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
I don't know how to download it, so I am holding off further uploading of Taiwanese signs until late March 2007. If I eventually know how to save PDF images as SVG, I will make my own Taiwanese sign replacements. Once saved as SVG, I need not make further conversions, right?--Jusjih 16:53, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
I now have Inkscape, but as a new user, I do not fully know how to use it. Please see my recently uploaded Image:TW-Art135.2.svg. I would like to have it replace Image:TW-Art135.2.png, but no good yet.--Jusjih 15:57, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Few questions from a newbie

I'm the author of the messy svg http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:DBD-EnergyLevels.svg that you mercifully correct. If you don't mind I want to ask few questions about it:

1.- In the new svg archive in the xml-tree everything are converted in path objects. It's necessary that change to properly render the image?

2.- If it's necessary and if you use inkscape, how do you do that?

Thanks for reading (I'm apologize for my english)

Convert to SVG

Amada44 09:37, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
--Amada44 09:12, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Untagged images -

Be sure to notify the uploader if you tag an image! -- Rüdiger Wölk 19:39, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi! which tags do you mean? Amada44 20:25, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Image:Thornapple TIGER Irving dam area map3c.PNG

Hi. w:TIGER provides .gif files. Converting to .svg is beyond my time/ability/interest, unfortunately. I dumped 2 hours into this already, and I'm not that good with inkscape. If someone else wants to take a crack at it, that would be cool! ++Lar: t/c 01:48, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi! yea sure! I am just tagging the image and i hope you don't mind! By tagging the image I am not asking you to to it. The only thing it says in my opinion is: this image would be better of in SVG. Anybody with spare time can do it. I hope, thats okay with you and that you dont mind the tag :) (cause some people do,... like this person here:1) --Amada44 08:04, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
(refactored to stay threaded) OK. Works for me. I may even actually do it someday, who knows. I need a good svg map in standard color and style to crib from I think. But as long as this tag doesn't carry the connotation that there is a particular expectation that it will get done it's fine by me. And yes, that person overreacted. ++Lar: t/c 15:26, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Hi! I did an SVG of the map.  . What do you think? Please feel free to edit the description. In fact I would be happy if you did. any suggestions? changes? Ach, yes. plz check spelling of the roads!!! greetings Amada! --Amada44 22:19, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
Wow! That is gorgeous work! I will update the images that use it in their description. thanks! ++Lar: t/c 19:31, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
A TINY nit, it's McCann Road, not McConn Road ... (A instead of O) I'll fix it if the letters are still text and I can coerce Inkscape into doing it... Want a harder one? :) how about this one: Image:US Army Transport museum context map.png (that would be a lot to ask of anyone!!!) Thanks again, that is an awesome piece of work.++Lar: t/c 19:35, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
Hi. I redid the information box on the svg image... please take a look and see if you are happy. Then I went into Inkscape and changed the McConn Rd. text to McCann Rd.... the file got a K bigger when I uploaded but it did seem to take. Again, please take a look and if I flubbed, let me know. I'm not that good with Inkscape. Finally, I replaced all the usages of the PNG with the SVG... Again, thanks so MUCH for doing this, your image is much nicer and really adds a lot! ++Lar: t/c 02:58, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
Hi! yep, the description page looks allot better :) and the text correction is also fine. I had a look at this image: Image:US Army Transport museum context map.png. problematic is the small map in the map as I can hardly recognize the details there and,... it is quite a lot of work *smile* Lets see if I get round to doing that. I am really happy, that you like the other map!! --Amada44 08:54, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
Smile. I was mostly pulling your leg about doing that, that small map would be monstrous to do as an SVG unless there was an automatic edge detector. I tried inkscapes but I either wasn't very smart or it wasn't very good as all it did was hang my machine. Thanks again for all your help! ++Lar: t/c 20:36, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

coat of arms Kanton St. Gall

Hi there! I hope that english is okay? You might want to put a bable on you usersite?3?

anyhow: I found a really messy coat of arms in SVG in the commons and I spent ages to clean it up just to find out, that it is on the sg.ch homepage as an eps. [4] (if that link doesnt work here is an other one: [5]. I have now uploaded it. Do you think we should overwrite yours? because it is the official versions and the colors are quite different than yours?

Image:POTY_barnstar_1.svg
Hi! hey, I have seen that you have retreated from the POTY. Shame, dont know the story though so I cant comment on it.

Something related: I have cleaned up this image:  to this: File:POTY barnstar 1a.svg . Main topic for me was to reduce file size and its now 44kb instead of 234kb. also the centre was quite messy and not exact. I couldn't replace the file because it is protected. Can you replace it? would be cool. thx. --Amada44 21:09, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your help. I'll try to replace it myself with your version. If I can't, maybe the author, LadyofHeats, can help.

I'm back to POTY, I really hope it will work out. Alvesgaspar 22:32, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

 • I tried ... and failed. The file is protected and I have no idea who did it. Maybe Bryan?
I just came across this page by chance. The image is protected because it is included in the Hauptseite where "cascading protection" is activated. --Matt314 12:06, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Znak A-32.svg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-3.0 to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Hello!

Thank you for providing images to the Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to the Commons should be useful to all users of Wikimedia projects. This is possible only if the images can be found by other people.

To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should put the images into appropriate topic pages, categories, optionally galleries, or both of them (see Commons:Categories). To find good categories for your images, the CommonSense tool may help.

You can find a convenient overview of your uploaded files in this gallery.

The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There are a large number of completely unsorted images on the Commons right now. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do!

Thank you. 78.54.214.73 06:59, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Help needed with my SVG file!

Hi!
I'm trying to create the flag of Chabad Lubavitch in SVG format, and i have a problem with adding the text Mashiach (משיח) to the flag.
I'm hoping u might be able to help me with it.
Thanking you in advance - Oren neu dag 23:42, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi! jep, I would like to help you but I am not sure what your problem is exactly. I am guessing, that you want the text not to be merged as a path? I would not recommend that, because every system renders it differently depending on what fonts are installed. I tried it and it doesn't look good: File:Test File Override.svg
In my opinion it is perfectly okay to have the text as path! I checked your link to the original bitmap flag and I found, that the crown looks quite different from what you put into the flag. I would try and adapt it a little. It is quite difficult, because the bitmap picture is of bad quality :-( Amada44 09:19, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Thank u for trying to solve my problem, i'm sure u'll be glad to know that it was resolved and that now it looks fine.
If u wish to know were did it went wrong for u (as i'm sure u would like to perfect your Computer graphics skills) u are welcome to ask F l a n k e r who helped me solve the problem.

Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which information may be missing. Thank you.

Wappen Bergenhusen

Mistaken colour

Hi! Thank you for your work :-) Unfortunately I had to revert your edition because it was about wrong colour. "duplicate" template says about same image or scaled down while my image used different colour (intentionally): #ee82ee is not #ff00ff (magenta). Best regards, ABX - (O mnie dyskutuj) 12:17, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

I know that it is not exactly the same color. but its not that differnent and only your userpage is using that object. I am trying to clean up all those discs with differnet sizes and shapes. It wouldnt really make much sense to upload the magenta and a very close to magenta disc in my eyes! Amada44 14:07, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Hello, Amada44!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Panorama Fix

Thank you for fixing my panoramas. They were great, and I have no idea how you were able to do it, but amazing job!

--Martin H. (talk) 11:55, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

done. Amada44 (talk) 12:11, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
Super, vielen Dank! --Martin H. (talk) 12:14, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

frogs

Hi Amada44

first of all, thanks for your great job of removing watermarks on lot of frogs pictures ! just on a technical point of view, how do you proceed to make it datelossless ?!... (and if you search other pictures, you may take a look here)... bye ! Poleta33 (talk) 20:54, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi Poleta33
It's my plesure!
I use a PS plugin that only re-codes the parts that have changed in the image. its called Better jpeg. There is a plugin version and a standalone version.
yep, I will check that category!! Amada44 (talk) 07:44, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

Old German Roadsigns

The font I used is from the German font series part of the roadgeek-fonts. I tweeked the letters to match the example by adjusting the heights / placement.

Can you do a favour for me? Can you go through the images I made and suggest appropriate names following your naming convention? Just tag them Historisches deutsches Verkehrszeichen XXX.svg. --Svgalbertian (talk) 13:30, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

File:Goldstumpfnasen (Rhinopithecus roxellanae).jpg

File:Goldstumpfnasen (Rhinopithecus roxellanae).jpg is not an exact duplicate of File:Goldstumpfnasen (Rhinopithecus roxellanae)-2.jpg, in fact it is the source image for that one. We only delete exact duplicates, and certainly not source images. :-) --Tony Wills (talk) 05:44, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi Tony!
well, you see I was on the "removing the watermark" mission and both images were marked as watermarked. So I thought I could save some work and mark the watermarked image as duplicate. But... you are right that it was the original. Anyhow, I removed the watermark of the original and you can delete the upscaled version (if you like) as both are now without watermark they are quite identical except that this File:Goldstumpfnasen (Rhinopithecus roxellanae)-2.jpg image is an upscaled version of this one File:Goldstumpfnasen (Rhinopithecus roxellanae).jpg ;-) --Amada44 (talk) 10:54, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
Ahh, I see, thanks :-). Yes the upscaled version is more or less a duplicate, so I have marked that one. --Tony Wills (talk) 22:05, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
