Hi, I have seen, that you have uploaded some better versions, overwriting the old files. Please take care, that you don't use the old trash names. For example Image:Caspar_David_Friedrich_016.jpg. Please add in future the original names, as here Caspar-David-Friedrich-Erinnerungen an das Riesengebirge.jpg. And please do not forget to add the new source where you have found the new file. Hi, It's always better to upload it new. Sometimes it is interesting to see the same pic in different colours. A special painting of Empress Elisabeth of Austria is here in 5 versions/colours - because nobody knows exactly, what the original colours are. So, the new source is very important. I would copy&paste the description of the old file and upload the new painting with the new and better name. When it has a good name, add -2.

I'm uploading paintings from Hermitage collection at this moment. These images were officially presented by the management of museum, so they are quite adequate to originals. I suppose it's may be intresting to see some pictures in different colours, but I doubd about it if we are discussing Mona Lisa with green or blue hair ). So I prefer to erase such images. • Доброго дня. Я тут наткнулся на ценный клад - администрация Эрмитажа выложила изрядную часть своих фондов в хорошем качестве [1] Более 4K единиц. Потихоньку переношу это на склад, будет желание присоединяйтесь и других агитируйте :) Но я собственно не за этим. Я спокойно заливал всё это на склад, но потом Mutter Erde сказала мне, что делаю я это не по науке и порекомендовала обратиться за советами.. к кому бы Вы думали )) Поэтому задам несколько вопросов:
  

1)Есть ли стандарты наименования изображений для произведений искусства? Где об этом почитать?
2)Если я хочу перезалить файл с дурацким названием, как лучше поступить - залить поверх и потом переименовать (можно ли переименовывать изображения?) или залить параллельно, а старый вынести КБУ? Можно ли ставить перенаправления, как на статьях? Вот эту механику пока не понял, чем отличается работа на складе от работы в энциклопедии :(
3) Если картинка была с плохим именем, я залил с хорошим, нужно ли потом обходить все разделы и ручками править ссылки на нее или это можно как-нибудь боту подсунуть?

1. Правил по названием я не встречала тут. По опыту, наиболее приемлемы такие названия (с потолка беру): Ivan_Petrov01.jpg, Ivan_Petrov02.jpg и т.д. Это для ленивых. Я предпочитаю Ivan_Petrov_Portrait_of_Natasha_Hermitage_1901.jpg - т.е. чтобы вся информация была в заглавии файла. И, разумеется, никакой кириллицы.
2. Если вы видите файл "Портрет Наташи" Иванова, фиговый по размеру и цвету, который называется еще вдобавок типа Ivan_N.t24298742.jpg, вы:
   1. Загружаете хороший файл отдельно под названием Ivan_Petrov_Portrait_of_Natasha_Hermitage_1901.jpg
   2. Идете в файл Ivan_N.t24298742.jpg и добавляете в него шаблон {{duplicate|Ivan_Petrov_Portrait_of_Natasha_Hermitage_1901.jpg}}, т.е. после палочки ставится название хорошего файла. После этого вы можете о нем вообще забыть.
   3. По этому шаблону файл Ivan_N.t24298742.jpg попадает в категорию К удалению - (Category:Duplicate). Туда должен прийти админ и пометить, что шаблон поставлен правильно.
   4. После этой пометки в файл придет бот и автоматически заменит во всех языковых проектах ссылки на Ivan_N.t24298742.jpg ссылками на Ivan_Petrov_Portrait_of_Natasha_Hermitage_1901.jpg, и потом плохой файл удалит. Это все происходит без вашего участия. Единственное, что админы могут долго не приходить апрувить, у них тут завал. Так что в рувики я обычно сама ручками заменяю файлик, чтобы поскорей результат трудов своих увидеть. Иногда они могут не захотеть удалять дубликат, из тех тезисов, которые Муттер Эрде озвучила - мол, когда много вариантов - это хорошо. Я этого не одобряю, помойка. Так что если название приемлемо, а картинка совсем крохотная, я перезаливаю ее заново, просто меняю источник в описании, и делаю вид, что так и надо. Потому что крохотные картинки все равно никому не понадобятся, если есть большие.
3. С редиректами тут все плохо.
4. Переименования. Если вы видите хороший файл, который называется Kutuzov.jpg, а на нем на самом деле Суворов, вы ставите на него шаблон {{rename|Suvorov.jpg}} и там еще где-то надо пояснить, что мол персоналия не правильно написана. Вроде все?

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

Dear Dmitry Rozhkov,

The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results: We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. In both rounds, 4070 different people voted for their favorite images. Additionally, there were more image candidates (featured pictures) in the contest than ever before (962 images total).

• In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files
• In the second round, 2919 people voted for the 50 finalists (the top 30 overall and top 2 in each category)

We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:

1. 157 people voted for the winner, an image of a lightbulb with the tungsten filament smoking and burning.
2. In second place, 155 people voted for an image of "Sviati Hory" (Holy Mountains) National Park in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.
3. In third place, 131 people voted for an image of a swallow flying and drinking.

Орангутаны

Здравствуйте! В 2008 году Вы загрузили фото File:Female orangutan posing.jpg и File:Orangutan thinking (var 2).jpg - фактически нецветные фотоснимки в оттенках коричневого. Изображения безусловно интересные, но не дают правильного представления о цвете животного. Если у Вас сохранились цветные оригиналы фото, будьте добры загрузить их как новые версии этих файлов. Ссылка "Загрузить новую версию этого файла" есть под историей каждого файла. Если там с цветом что-то не так - поправим.

  • По сути дела, это grayscale файлы, где каждая яркость (а не цвет) кодирована не одним каналом, а тремя. Цветовой информации нет, а цветовой формат есть. Вот такая досада. --PereslavlFoto (talk) 20:08, 8 July 2015 (UTC)

      • Объясню подробнее. Пусть у нас есть значение яркости 9A, мы записали его в формате grayscale как 9A, как один байт. А теперь пусть у нас есть яркость 9A, но мы выражаем её не серой краской, а коричневой, и пишем её в RGB. Обратите внимание, что это всё та же самая яркость 9A, она не вводит цветовых различий, а только яркостные. Теперь на неё тратится уже три байта. Фотография в сепии не содержит цветовой информации. Она может быть записана однобайтовыми цветами. Передавая эту яркость не серым, а коричневым, файл использует трёхбайтовые цвета. Поэтому файл становится втрое больше — однако не даёт ничего сверх grayscale. Поэтому хранение фотографий в сепии в целом неэффективно. --PereslavlFoto (talk) 21:17, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
        • Всё что Вы написали до предпоследнего предложения, Вы могли бы не писать, я в курсе. Однако с последними двумя тезисами я не согласен. Файл втрое больше даёт выражение авторского замысла. В данном случае, замысел в том, что естественный цвет шерсти орангутана весьма близок к цвету тёмной сепии (по сути, я просто распространил цвет шерсти на всё фото). It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Important message for file movers

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

• To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
• To perform file name swaps.
• When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning.
