Missing information

The GFDL license requires you to give credit to the author(s). According to Commons:Criteria for inclusion you must also give enough information so that others can check that the license information is correct. The images listed below have no sources.

The GFDL license requires you to name the author. It is not enough to add "This image comes from English Wikipedia", in fact you are violating the copyright.

Image:Jim jarmusch 1.jpeg is downloaded from English Wikipedia, en:Image:Jim jarmusch 1.jpg. Since the photo at English Wikipedia is published as "fair use" it must be deleted here. The same goes for Image:Mandriva logo.png who is published as "fair use" at en:Image:Mandriva logo.png.

Image:Ogame1.gif and the other screenshots are published by GameForge GMBH who claim "Alle Rechte an Quellcode, Texten und Grafiken liegen bei der Gameforge GmbH. ogame.de ist eine registrierte Marke. Sämtliche Rechte liegen bei der Gameforge GmbH". Please show where GameForge explicitly allows anybody to use the screenshots for any purpose.

WikiCommons do not allow "fair use" images, see Commons:Licensing. You are obviously not familiar with GFDL. You are not allowed to upload any image and tag it as GFDL. If you can not show conclusively that an image is indeed licensed under GFDL, it will have to be deleted. Thuresson 15:06, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

You claim that this Debian logo is licensed under GFDL. However, you uploaded it from en:Image:Openlogo-nd-100.png where is is used under the "fair use" provision. Official logos from the Debian project are not freely licensed as you can see at debian.org.

I've reverted your change; try looking at the source rather than just noticing that it's there. The permission given is for use in Wikipedia, not for a PD license. We need a source for the license, and this has been explained to the uploader. Cnyborg 21:29, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

The website which gave permission to use the image is not the copyright holder of the image, and does not have any authority over the image. Pokemon images, even if they are not created by Nintendo, are covered under Nintendo's copyright, and are not allowed on Commons. You can read more at Commons:Licensing.

Also, when we use the term "source" on Commons, we don't only mean mentioning the website that an image is from. It is also important to know who the copyright holder is. Since the website that the Pokemon images was not the copyright holder, the picture did not have sufficient source information. In the top left of each window on my SUSE desktop, I have a logo with an orange fox wrapped around a blue globe. That is the logo that appears at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/ . However your window has a blue globe with no fox. Prompted by your message, I explored the mozilla site and found [1]

• The Mozilla trademarks include, among others, the names Mozilla®, mozilla.org®, Firefox®, Thunderbird™, Bugzilla™, Camino®, Sunbird™ and Seamonkey™, as well as the Mozilla logo, Firefox logo, Thunderbird logo and the red lizard logo.
• The default logos in CVS which are built into Firefox and Thunderbird by default (i.e. the globe without the fox, and the original blue bird) are explicitly not protected as Mozilla trademarks.

So, I guess your trick is to use Ubuntu and not SUSE! Screenshots I make might not be suitable for Commons, as they are protected by the MPL, unless I cut or crop the trademark, or get another build. Nur ist dann das neue Bild Image:Safvet beg Basagic.jpg ein Duplikat des alten Bildes. Du bist nicht der Bildautor! Du musst die gesamte Versionsgeschichte des alten Bildes auf die Bildbeschreibungsseite des neuen Bildes kopieren. Das Bild eines anderen Users hochzuladen und es als sein eigenes Werk zu bezeichen ist eine Frechheit! Auch AdnanSa ist natürlich nicht der Autor des Bildes. Er hat es nur kopiert. Deshalb war auch die Lizenzangabe {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-2.5,2.0,1.0}} falsch. Der richtige Autor ist der Maler des Bildes. Wer dieser Maler war und wann er starb ist unbekannt. Image use on Wikinews

Hello! Over on Wikinews we're using an image you uploaded to commons (See wikinews:Dell to offer Ubuntu Linux on some computers). As you'll note on the article you're credited to your commons username. I'm getting in touch in case you'd prefer credited with your real name. We don't have a formal policy on image credits yet, but the semi-consensus is we should credit in our articles wherever possible. The recognition is an incentive to people to give us usable images and a way of saying thanks for doing so. Give me a shout - or someone who's edited the article if you'd like the attribution changed, or create an account and - in the wiki way - change it yourself. ;-) --Brianmc 11:00, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to Commons should be useful to all users of Wikimedia projects. This is possible only if the images can be found by other people.

To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should put the images into appropriate topic pages, categories, optionally galleries, or both of them (see Commons:Categories). To find good categories for your images, the CommonSense tool may help.

You can find a convenient overview of your uploaded files in this gallery.

The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There are a large number of completely unsorted images on Commons right now. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Your account will be renamed

Hello,

The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.

Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Emx. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Emx~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.

Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
