Thanks for uploading Image:Ariel_Garten_Playing_Quintephone_at_ICMC2007imgp7900cpq.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. -Nard 20:07, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
This is a picture I took myself, using my underwater wearable computer and underwater camera, during a public performance (an underwater concert, in which I was also one of the performers) in Copenhagen. I have tagged this as GFDL (GNU...).Glogger (talk) 20:58, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
What's that instrument? edit
We wondering over at w:WP:RD/S: in this image you created, what is the first image under "plasmaphone" a picture of? How does that instrument work? Could you possibly link to the original image where there may be more info on the instrument? Please reply at w:User:Shaggorama. --Shaggorama 03:37, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
The plasmaphone is an example of a physiphone; see http://itp.nyu.edu/nime.old/2007//proc/nime2007_118.pdf?n=2007/proc/nime2007_118.pdf

Tip: Categorizing images edit
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 05:51, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

File tagging File:Noah Mintz playing hydraulophone.jpg edit
This media may be deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Noah Mintz playing hydraulophone.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |

File:SteveMann persisence of vision painting with lightvector pushbroom 1985.svg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. File:Musical instrument classification by physics-based organology.png sections edit
It would be great if you could upload the five sections of File:Musical instrument classification by physics-based organology.png without the "five elements" heading. Hyacinth (talk) 23:09, 11 August 2014 (UTC)
Photo challenge... edit
Hi.
Your latest posts are very cool but GIF are not really pictures and should be removed from the challenge and I think you may choose the best of the series : only one of the angle grinder and only one of the abakographic.
Thank you. a lot. --Llann .\m/ (Lie 2 me ...) 01:45, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
I got rid of 2 of the 3 grinder images (picked the best one) as suggested. I also got rid of some of the abakographic images.
I thought that the GIF photographs illustrate the concept of "Lights in motion" in long exposure photography and also there is some encyclopedic content there that shows an important principle, and educates people about how long-exposure photography works, and how lights-in-motion leave behind a trace of light, especially evident in Darkpainting Sightpainting Surveillance and Sousveillance.gif which shows the process of inverse lightpainting and the way that the light leaves behind a trace when it is in motion, and how the trace shows what the surveillance camera can see. Glogger (talk) 04:39, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- Please see the discussion at Commons talk:Photo challenge#Moving pictures (and earlier ones about videos). I don't think it is fair on the other participants to start accepting video/animated-gif part way through the challenge. If it was open to video images (or animations) then the challenge theme should have stated this at the start. I agree with Llann Wé², please could you remove the animated gifs. Also consider making them in a standard video format for Commons since animated gifs really only belong on social media and aren't a professional video format. -- Colin (talk) 10:01, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
If GIFs have no place in any quality educational publication (like Wikipedia) and belong only in social networking, what should we be using in Wikipedia to express concepts like lights-in-motion?
Should these image be deleted from Wikimedia or replaced with something in a "modern video format"?
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Eye_dilate.gif
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cycloid#mediaviewer/File:Cycloid_f.gif
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed-ball#mediaviewer/File:Speedball_super-solo.gif
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed-ball#mediaviewer/File:Speedball_match_simple.gif
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed-ball#mediaviewer/File:Speedball_match_double.gif
I think there should be a place for GIF images. It is not really a movie format, but is useful in images where most of the content is static, but some small part of it moves, such as lights in motion, or the pupil of an eye in motion while the rest remains static.
I actually do see a lot of GIF pictures in Wikipedia, such as the main first (lede) image in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cycloid
How can that be replaced by "modern video formats" (e.g. so they play when the page is viewed, without requirements of an external program)?
I'd agree that in print media there's no capacity for this, but Wikipedia should encourage images that explain concepts, such as something moving, such as lights moving.
Should we also delete these from Wikipedia: The last 3 images in: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed-ball http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A*_search_algorithm#mediaviewer/File:Astar_progress_animation.gif http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A*_search_algorithm#mediaviewer/File:A*_Search_Example_on_North_American_Freight_Train_Network.gif
Photo challenge 2... edit
Hi Glogger.
This is a photo challenge not a gallery so :
- Please 1 : choose one the best of your similar pictures and remove the other because we don't need so many pics so similar.
- Please 2 : can you make shorter captions because with the gallery mode choosen we can't see all the pic while passing mouse on it (and we need to click on to display image to see if the dates and the autor match with the rules).
Could be very kind, Thank you.. --Llann .\m/ (Lie 2 me ...) 22:15, 24 October 2014 (UTC)
- I second Llann Wé²'s request. Your images are verging on self-promotion/advertising. Many of the images show the same equipment. This isn't a gallery nor are images judged for their educational value -- we are trying to create images that are artistically interesting as a challenge for photographers. Please select just a few images that you feel are great. You've been asked several times now. If you don't show some restraint, we may need to cull the images or consider whether you should participate in future. Try to remember that overloading the challenge will only create ill-feeling among the reviewers who will grow weary of the similar images, and this fatigue is unfair on other nominations. Reviewers only get three votes to share among everyone's images. It is unfair to ask them to use them up deciding between your pictures. It also reduces the chance that any one of your images will get sufficient votes. -- Colin (talk) 12:59, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
OK, I removed a bunch of the images and shortened the titles of the remaining. I notice, also, that many people are uploading groups of similar images, Telus Spark Ring of Light 1, Telus Spark Ring of Light 2, and Telus Spark Ring of Light 3, for example, which appear to depict the same subject matter, i.e. very little variation. Glogger (talk) 04:14, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you. a lot Glogger. Very kind of you.
- I asked the same to a pair of users and I'm expecting them to remove some before I'll have to do it but I'm not sure I'll remove the ones they'd like to.
- Have a good week and go on with making so interesting pictures, they are cool.
- --Llann .\m/ (Lie 2 me ...) 04:48, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks Glogger. I have asked the person who uploaded the Telus Spark Ring to also show some restraint. This is the problem: we see other people uploading several of similar images and so think this is ok. But if everyone did it... Well, if you review 100+ images you will know that it is time-consuming and you become grateful if someone selects the best first. The rules say "There is no limit on the number of submissions per user, but please choose from among your best and most varied images." -- perhaps we need to repeat this on each theme page too :-). Nobody reads instructions... The subject of your images is insteresting and novel, and I do think you will get a better voting result from your smaller selection. Please vote next month (though you can't vote on your own pics). Thanks. -- Colin (talk) 08:35, 28 October 2014 (UTC)

Your account will be renamed edit
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Glogger. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Glogger~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
