Wikimedia Commons does not accept fair use content.
We do this because Commons is a shared media repository. Downstream wikis have different policies based on local laws. Uses that are acceptable under US law, for example, may not be acceptable in many other countries with more restrictive rules. In addition, fair use is not compatible with our aim as a collection of freely distributable media files. Therefore, Commons cannot legally rely on fair use provisions. Non-free content that may be used with reference to fair use may be uploaded locally if your project allows this.

Tip: Categorizing images
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 11:59, 5 September 2011 (UTC)

Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. Notification about possible deletion
Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.
If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Thanks for uploading File:Allen2013.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted.

When you say "fix contrast" (in English) and "troppo contrasto" (in Italian), were you talking about artificial sharpening or contrast?
You're entitled to your opinion on whether my version was too sharp... I think we will have to disagree on that!
I'm not a fan of over-sharpening, as it can make things look harsh and it's a poor substitute for a well-focused image. However, the original version of this image was very soft, and there was no easy way to fix that without significant sharpening.
The lighting on the original was also very poor.
My new version isn't perfect- I can't perform miracles with the source material- but I think it looks *much* better at moderate resolution than the original.
All the best! Ubcule (talk) 14:16, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
- Ubcule (talk) 14:21, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
- @Ubcule: "Contrast" means contrast. See the variety of colored pixels in your images, that depends on the too high contrast. And the same is for the lack of uniformity in (what should be) monotonous colors. In the light blue zone, for example, the better is to have an opaque and as solid as possible color. Regards, --Horcrux92 (talk) 14:35, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
- Okay, I asked because when you said "fix contrast", the only difference I could see was that the new version was marginally sharper (the difference was minor).
- I find your answer a bit confusing. However, if the blue is uneven, that is because the lighting in the original was uneven.
- The bottom line is that the source was not a good quality image, so it will never be perfect. It's just a question of which version is more tolerable for the intended use... something we will have to disagree on! :-)
- All the best, Ubcule (talk) 14:47, 28 February 2016 (UTC)

Hello, Horcrux92. I saw that you undid my change to this category. It is standard to put architecture categories under culture. You can see that if you look at the categories for architecture in Italy and in other countries. Sometimes architecture categories are even one level down from that, in art categories. I just changed this category to be the same as others. If you think the architecture categories should be directly under the region, country, etc., please discuss it before changing them again. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 17:03, 6 March 2016 (UTC)
