Your renaming request for the votive relief from Mount Parnes edit

I noticed you requested the renaming of Votive relief from Mount Parnes, Attica to its current name, from the former name National Archaeological Museum of Athens 1859. I can see how the former name could be considered misleading, but this leaves us with another problem: I uploaded two votive reliefs from Mount Parnes, namely National Archaeological Museum of Athens 1448 which you missed. Also, the removal of the inventory number from the file name was not a good idea because it was useful to identify the file. Please take a look at Category:Ancient Greek votive reliefs in the National Archaeological Museum of Athens where this is also done for other images. I think it would be best if both files would be renamed to the following:

  1. Votive relief from Mount Parnes NAMA 1448
  2. Votive relief from Mount Parnes NAMA 1859

This combines both your descriptive name with the inventory number commonly used for the pieces in the museum. Would you agree with this? --AlexanderVanLoon (talk) 19:11, 31 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi King jakob c 2, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Renaming edit

Hello, King jakob c 2. You refused to rename the file “Utagawa kunisada, attore nella perte di un monaco buddista bambino, 1872.JPG“ to “Utagawa Kunisada III, attore nella perte di un monaco buddista bambino, 1872.JPG“ pointing to renaming guidelines. There are three artists using the name “Utagawa Kunisada“: Kunisada I, Kunisada II and Kunisada III. All three have categories in Commons. To distinguish them and also to distinguish there work, it would be better if theire prints were named accurately using the correct artist name. Renaming the image is not simply a cosmetic act. Regards. --Horst Gräbner (talk) 07:06, 11 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Mellivora capensis edit

Thank you for renaming "Mellivora capensis - Museo Civico di Storia Naturale Giacomo Doria - Genoa, Italy". I very much appreciate it, and am sorry that I screwed up by uploading it without the right name. Many thanks and best wishes, Daderot (talk) 23:57, 13 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

User boxes, etc edit

Hi Jakec, as you know you just 'moved' a file that I had requested a move for within the last hour (of this writing). I was checking out your user boxes and one caught my eye that I'd like to include on my commons use page. It's the one that says Jakec has uploaded 218 files to Commons. When I went to look for it in your user page markup I didn't see anything that looked like such a box. How is such a user box added to the user page?

Also about a month or so ago I requested 'filemover' rights, but at the time I only had one or two requests for file moves and found out that this of course was not nearly enough to be considered for filemover rights. Since then I have requested over 30 file moves which have been granted. I do a lot of work with files, uploading, uploading new versions, adding categories, etc and am wondering, and hoping, that I have enough granted requests to be eligible for filemover rights so I don't have to keep running to someone else to do this. I don't bother requesting a filemove for an image unless the filename really needs a change, and of course I am mindful of the rules for file moving. If you think I have enough successful filemove requests to request flemover rights i'll go ahead and make such a request again. Any feedback on this would be most appreciated. All the best. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 03:19, 29 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

@Gwillhickers: The userbox that you're describing is {{User Files 2}}. As for you getting filemover rights, it could be possible. 33 rename requests isn't a lot. My first request for filemover was declined in August 2013 when I had about as many requests done. To be fair, though, I had only 120 edits to Commons at that time. On the other hand, you seem to have been around for a while and are already trusted enough for autopatrolled, so it could go either way. The only way to know is to file a request and that can't do any harm. Go for it! --Jakob (talk) 15:58, 30 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Well, if you had about as many requests granted as I do when you were declined then perhaps I'd better not rush it and get a few more requests under my belt, even if I do have more edits.
  • I was experimenting with some user boxes. Several work, but a few of them (which are presently hidden in the mark up on my user page) result in red links. For example Template:User history. Have they been deleted and don't exist anymore?
  • Last, I guess this is as good as time as any to request reviewer rights, and since I'm here, you're it.   Formally requesting reviewer rights. -- In any case, any and all help would be greatly appreciated. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 17:14, 30 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Seems so. We can use images form commons on Wikipedia, but templates don't cut it. Btw, didn't mean to sound flip or that I was taking anything for granted when I requested reviewer rights. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 03:22, 1 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Dornsife Gap edit

I'm surprised that the halos got worse when you reduced sharpening on this image. Are you editing from raw, or is this a jpg already massaged in the camera? I see you cropped a bit and rotated a bit, the image is improved, except for the halos. And if you want to add a camera location, it looks like you were at 40.730753, -76.791945, more or less. Generic1139 (talk) 05:56, 4 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Comments   Comment The main motif is the field, not the township. IMO you should crop out most of the field.--XRay 18:26, 5 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
But the field is part of the township. Besides, the texture in the foreground is kind of nice. Jakec 19:00, 6 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

File:Area51 Tikaboo Peak 07.2008.jpg edit

File:Area51 Tikaboo Peak 07.2008.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Important message for file movers edit

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
  • To perform file name swaps.
  • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
