Bonjour, je ne vais pas pouvoir vous aider concernant l'image mentionnée ci-dessus, car je ne connais rien du tout aux hyéroglyphes. Je note pour chaque photo prise les références internes au musée du Louvre, pour indiquer ce que représente la photo, mais il se peut que j'ai fait une erreur, ce qui pourrait expliquer l'erreur concernant le nom. La base de données du Louvre ne présente pas de photo pour cette stèle, impossible donc de savoir si j'ai commis une erreur sans retourner au Louvre. Images in categories

Hi Neith,

Please don't include an image in a category if it's already included in its subcategory. Image:Nefertiti vieja.jpg was already in the Nefertiti category, which is a subcategory of Category:18th dynasty, which is a subcategory of Category:Ancient Egypt, so it is enough to include it only in the Nefertiti category. Otherwise all the other categories become too crowded. Alensha 14:06, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Re: Hetepheres' funerary items

Hello there:

Thank you for noticing the pics I have posted from my recent trip to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. I took several hundred photos of just about everything of note in the galleries when I visited the place this past Sunday, so I do have some pics of some of Hetepheres' funerary items. Unfortunately the lighting in the room that they are held in is gloomy, and there is no flash photography allowed, so not all of the images turned out. I believe I have good (if not great) images of her reconstructed bed with headrest and her palanquin/carrying chair. If the quality is okay will try to post them this evening -- keep an eye on my gallery page for updates to it.

I envy you having been to Egypt — your photos are great! I would suggest that in terms of categorizing them, if you can slot something under a particular pharaoh, do that instead of slotting it to the dynasty it belongs to (such as the various pyramid shots you have). I only mention this because they are more likely to been referenced on Wikipedia if they are in that sub-category rather than one level up at the dynasty level.

Thank you also for taking the time to properly create the [Category:Egyptian antiquities in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston], as I hadn't gotten that far myself as yet.

Psametik III and Ramesses XI

Hi, thank you. Those pictures of reliefs are taken from the Temple of Amun in Karnak. I have focused to colect as many as possible rare reliefs of obscure pharaohs so that the articles on Wikipedia can have a good look. Unfortunately some users from the wiki commons have delited my pictures of Simun, Unas...etc. because they do not believe in their authencity, and spent most of their time deliting things rather than uploading(unfortunately). I am looking forward to uploading some pictures from my trip to Egypt.

Changing the name of the image

Is it possible to change the name of the image I have uploaded because there has been some problem while putting them in the articles. For example; I have been putting an image of Ptolemy XII smiting enemies in the article about this ruler, but instead of putting the right one, the image that appeared in the article was some other picture with the same name. Hi again. I don't think that adding the Arabic name besides the French/English name is a good idea. I don't think that the page title will be rendered correctly in this case because of the bracket. I guess that the best solution would be to translate image descriptions to Arabic. I will work on them when I finish uploading the rest of free images from Arabic Wikipedia. Louvre statue

Dear Sebi, Do you know if this statue in the Louvre Museum belongs to Psamtik I or II? Image:Egypte louvre 038.jpg It is used for Psamtik I on some pages but the statue description just says 'Psamtik makes an offering to Osiris.' Since you have been to the Louvre, you may know the answer. PS: I was the person who downloaded the images of the tomb of Takelot I and Shoshenq III at Tanis. • Thank you for your reply Sebi. It is as I feared...there is currently no Commons image of Psamtik I sadly which is very strange for a king who ruled Egypt for 54 years. I am glad you enjoyed the images of Takelot I, Osorkon II, Shoshenq III and Hornakht. J. Bodworth at egyptarchive agreed to look through his collection of images at Tanis and download a few images of his visit there in return. New image

I managed to get someone on flicker who took pictures in the Museum of Cairo in 2004 to license this image under CC BY 2.0 with no Commercial use restrictions. If the photo had a Commercial use restriction, it CANNOT be placed on Commons. The image is of Sheshonq II: Image:Sheshonq II mask2004.jpg It is now on Commons. I will ask an Admin to delete Crucifixion's image of Psamtik III and will use yours instead on his article. I never saw your image on Commons. By the Way, the SCA's position on the photo ban is given here: [2] Basically too many tourists were taking photos in the small crowded Museum and threatening the safety of the museum objects. I will wait for a few days because my friend Captmondo just visited the British Museum on Monday to take some pictures before he returns home to Toronto, Canada. If he was not able to take a photo of an object of Psamtik I, I will certainly use your image. Of course, even if he has an image,I would be more than happy to use two images in his article because Psamtik I was a very important Egyptian king. BTW, here is another 'picture' by Crucifxon which is also copyright: [3] It is actually from a 2001 BBC article. I agree with you: I wish one could pay some money to take some photos but in truth the Cairo museum is small, overcrowded and just old! If Egypt was rich like France or the US, it could certainly build many more museums--instead of keeping its artifacts in hundreds of warehouses throughout the country where no one can see them--and then people could take photos of the treasures of Tanis and replace this image. If you a student of Egyptology, you may be able to take photos in the Cairo museum if you write to the SCA asking for official permission according to this [4] This story is 3 years old and perhaps they may or may not allow it; I don't know. It may be worth a try. I definitely cannot since I am not an Egyptologist--just someone interested in Egyptology. My real job is in real estate appraisal. • I thought it was Thutmose I because Thanatosimi (Thomas) was a good Wiki Project Ancient Egypt member. Nowadays, he has retired because he was tired of all the nonsense and arguments on Wikipedia which is a pity. Many good contributors accidentally type the wrong image heading for pictures such as this: Image:Neferefre Abusir Pyramid.jpg. It is actually the pyramid of Neferirkare, not Neferefre. I corrected the error in the edit portion. I asked an Admin about it and he told me that as long as I clarify that it was Neferirkare Kakai's pyramid, there is no need to delete it. As for that image of Thutmose I, I will likely remove it from the article on Thutmose I in a few days time but I won't delete it--just clarify that it is actually Thutmose III instead. Speedy category corrections

Hello there:

Just wanted to say "thanks" for the work you did on adding/fixing the categories for some of the Ancient Egyptian museum images as I was continuing to upload them.

I have a couple hundred photos from my trip their earlier today, and plan on posting more when time allows. Please visit my gallery at User:Captmondo/gallery for future updates if interetsed.

I also ought to add that I admire the extensive work you have done on the Ancient Egyptian images from the Louvre. I may adopt the scheme you did by noting the rooms that the objects are in, but that can wait for another time.

• Comment. I wonder if this sarcophagus here: Image:Sarcophagus of Ibi TT36.jpg belongs to the official Ibi from TT36 who served under the Divine Adoratice Nitocris? (I just guessed here!) This flickr image was licensed freely at cc by 2.0 so it could be used on Commons. I saw another picture on flickr of Ibi's sarcophagus (which was not free) and it said this person Ibi served in the reign of Psamtik I. Thanks for your comments on those images I placed from flickr and for cataloguing that beautiful funerary mask from Gulbenkian. Glad you like the images! I actually hadn't noticed that particular fine detail until you mentioned it, and I can't say that I've ever seen anything else like that -- I wonder just how common (or uncommon) having the name as part of the tail of the serekh figure (rather than just *in* it) is.

Have just finished uploading a few more pics that I took from the British Museum. One of them is of a wooden mummy case that belonged to the pharaoh "Intef". Question is, *which* Intef? The caption that accompanied the mummy case didn't say, and neither does the book I picked up that briefly references it. Can you properly categorize that one?

Meresank

Is this really the sarcophagus of Meresank II: Image:MeresankhII-Sarcophagus MuseumOfFineArtsBoston.png a daughter of Khafra? I thought Queen Meresankh III was the wife of Khafra. If so, Meresank II should not be Khafra's daughter. --Leoboudv (talk) 05:43, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Note the part that says she is "not be confused with her niece, Meresankh III". ;-)

I see from the caption that it mentions that Meresankh III is represented by a "pair statue" of her with her mother. I didn't upload them at the time to the Commons since I wasn't that happy with the quality of the pictures I took (I so wish I had my "good" camera back then!). Kha or Meryt

This crown, on the other hand, seems almost impossible to catalogue (Nubian, but not Meroitic and not Egyptian either).....which is a shame because no one will be able to locate it: Image:A post-Meroitic era Nubian royal crown from Ballana Tomb 118 by John Campana.jpg I only catalogue it as a 'royal crown' and under 'Nubia.' Mesha stela

Dear Sebi, thank you for the reply on that crown. It is certainly a difficult issue.

• On another matter, I wonder....you live in Paris and have been to Louvre haven't you? Have you ever taken any 'good' photos of the Mesha stela for its article: [8] I have seen a few images of this stela on flickr but they are not freely licensed and cannot be placed on Commons. I also don't know the flickr owners. But from what I have seen and read, it is supposedly displayed in the Louvre. So, you may have seen it. A good new colour image is probably superior to this old black and white photo of it: Image:Mesha stele.jpg You can always call your image Meshastela.jpg or Meshastela1.jpg like I occasionally do? I think it is a triad: Image:Triad of Ramesses II with Amun and Hathor.jpg I don't know how to catalogue this unique image. By the way, is this flickr image needed on Commons: [10] ? If the answer is yes, what name would you propose for it: statue of Tutankhamun usurped by Horemheb, statue of Horemheb, statue perhaps by Tutankhamun or what? • Dear Sebi, Just wanted to thank you for your help in cataloguing my Egyptian images. I doubt I will upload many future Egyptian images since I have uploaded all those which were freely licensed from flickr. (maybe only 1 or 2 images on occasion) I have uploaded many good ones onto Commons already. Unfortunately, there are no Egyptian museums where I live in Western Canada. Kalabsha

Dear Sebi, I have contacted the flickr image owner of that stela from Kalabsha but unfortunately, he seems to be away and has not changed the image license. So I cannot use it at present. Dear Sebi, I have asked an admin to delete that bad duplicate image. On another issue, do you think that this [13] is from the Temple of Amada. It is either from the Temple of Amada or Derr. I read in an article that the reliefs from Amada temple still have very bright colours. The photographer confusingly writes: 'Derr Rock Temple Amada.' I think its is indeed Amada, not Derr. I believe the cartouche reads as 'Menkheperre' for Thutmose III....and Thutmose III, Amenhotep II and Thutmose IV built at Amada whereas Derr was built by Ramses II. Do you agree?

Thank You Sebi on your comments. I have now placed on Commons the image of the alabaster chapel of Amenhotep I....I never knew it even existed until now! As for the Commons photo, you are correct--it is indeed Ankhenesneferibre, the last God's Wife of Amun in the Saite period. There is a photo of it on page 246 of the Complete Royal Families of Ancient Egypt by Aidan Dodson and Dyan Hilton. I did not make the connection...until now. I will ask an Admin to rename it. Thank you for your comment on that funerary mask. It is good that you have 1 picture of Khaemwast's funerary mask. It was not a good picture anyway on huwiki. By the way, do you have this image of Ahmose Nefertari's statue in the Louvre: [27] I have seen other images of this statue on flickr but they are not licensed freely. If not, I can move this huwiki image to Commons.

• I hope that one day you can place a good color image of the Mesha stela. It is impossible to get a good image here of the stela from flickr to Commons...which is a pity. There is a single bad Commons image with lots of camera flash: Image:Mesha Stele (511142469).jpg It is almost impossible to see the writing on the document. • Thank you for the kind comments on the Ahmose Nefertari statue. I may place some flickr images here in future but it will be very few. I have placed many of the best ones here...that I wanted. By the way, this coffin in the BM belongs to Nebkheperre Intef: Image:WoodenCoffinOfIntef-BritishMuseum-August21-08.jpg I have an academic article in my hand by a respected German Egyptologist which states that Nebkheperre's coffin catalogue number is EA 6652. The scholar also notes that other objects by Nebkheperre Intef are in the British Museum. So, there is no doubt that the coffin above is Nebkheperre's. I have told Captmondo about my discovery here by private E-mail.
• The only question now is which of these 2 coffins in the Louvre belongs to Sekhemre Wepmaat and which belongs to Sekhemre Heruhirmaat. You say that this coffin is Sekhemre Heruhirmaat:

There is another possible solution: they could *both* be the coffins of that particular pharaoh, the smaller once nested within the larger. I have never been to the Louvre but while perusing Ancient Egyptian images I found this (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Louvres-antiquites-egyptiennes-img_2848.jpg) image from Rama, where you see the two coffins side-by-side. As for the smaller of the two coffins, I was simply going by the description on the Louvre Web site (http://cartelen.louvre.fr/cartelen/visite?srv=car_not_frame&idNotice=19053) for the image of the coffin that I touched up (and which Neithsabes managed to take a much better overall picture of at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Louvre_122006_051.jpg). So there may in fact be no conflict if both coffins belong to the same pharaoh. Unfortunately the Louvre Web site does seem to mention anything about the other coffin. Sekhemre Heruhirmaat

Dear Sebi, Is this image description correct: [37] The description by the photographer states that these objects are the "lid and coffin of king Antef (Sékhemrê Hérouhermaât). 17th dynasty." If this is corrrect, then they both belong to Sekhemre Heruhirmaat...and not to Sekhemre Wepmaat at all. Which means there is no picture of Sekhemre Wepmaat's coffin and sarcophagus lid on Commons. 1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

Ramesses XI

Dear Sebi,

Have you ever taken an image of Ramesses XI in your visits to the Louvre or to Egypt? I just ask this because the only other photo of Ramesses XI (by Crucifixion) has been deleted as a copyright violation. The Admins reviewed all his photos and only kept images which they knew were taken by him. All the low resolution ones were judged as likely copyvios and deleted. •  Comment: If you can take a picture of an ostracon showing a likeness of Ramesses XI, that is more than fine. I'm glad you liked the image of Siamun's cartouche before Ankhfenmut. If you want more images from the University collection of Pennsylvania, you should go through Hans photos on flickr here. Other photographers may refuse to change the license on a photo since everyone is different. Personally, I don't contact Hans too much for photos today. I contacted him on Siamun because there was only a poor quality sphinx photo for him on WikiCommons. I can ask for maybe 2 or 3 pictures...and not more. Photos du temple de Khonsou

Nous avons échangé sur wikipédia concernant tes récentes photos des reliefs du temple de Khonsou, et viens de découvrir les autres ici ! superbe ! le travail des restaurateurs est extraordinaire et la mise au jour de toutes ces couleurs masquées finalement par les siècles.

File:KhonsuTemple-Karnak-Restoring-2.jpg en témoigne nettement. Les cartouches (il s'agit là de Ramsès IV, fils et successeur de Ramsès III) et hiéroglyphes qui apparaissent comme si on baissait un rideau de fumée sont tout simplement magnifique. Le résultat obtenu sur File:KhonsuTemple-Karnak-Incredible.jpg sont tout bonnement stupéfiant. En dehors de tombes de la vallée de rois et de la vallée des reines ou de certains temples bien conservés comme celui d'Abydos, je n'en connais que peu d'exemples. bravo vraiment.

Un autre exemple pour voir les progrès est de comparer ta photo File:KhonsuTemple-Karnak-RamessesIII.jpg avec celle File:RamessesIII-KhonsuTemple-Karnak.png qui date de 2006 et représente la même scène... incroyable la différence. Je serai curieux de voir le résultat concernant cette scène File:Karnak Khonsou 080517.jpg que j'avais prise en 2005, mais peut être ne l'as tu pas prises?

Concernant File:KhonsuTemple-Karnak-Sekhmet.jpg tu as affaire à une divinité masculine léontocéphale qui n'est pas Sekhmet. L'absence de hiéroglyphe m'interrdit pour le moment l'identifiaction du dieu avec précision mais je crois bien que c'est une forme d'Amon ithyphallique ou encore du produit d'un syncrétisme dont je n'ai pas toutes les clefs mais je crois bien avoir dans mes archives une source qui pourrait nous éclairer. Je vais faire des recherches et te tiendrais au courant. En tous les cas cette représentation est tout à fait exceptionnelle et rare ! donc encore une fois bravo !

Je me rend compte maintenant, grâce à ta remarque (honte sur moi) que File:KhonsuTemple-Karnak-Sekhmet.jpg est effectivement une divinité ithyphallique. J'espère pouvoir t'aider en uploadant en plus ceci, où on voit un cartouche: File:KhonsuTemple-Karnak-Sekhmet like.jpg.

J'avais remarqué la présence de File:Karnak Khonsou 080517.jpg. Mais je n'ai rien de mieux. Comme je te disais, j'ai vraiment eu quelques secondes pour faire ces photos. Le fellah semblait inquiet que quelqu'un puisse revenir, ce qui est possible, on était en novembre, mais ça faisait sans doute surtout partie du cinéma destiné à attirer un bon bakchich. J'aurais du m'attarder et mitrailler. J'étais tellement abasourdi de voir ces beautés. Mais je n'étais pas eul, et je ne voualis pas embêter la personne avec qui j'étais et qui semblait inquiète. Bref...mais ça me fait râler de ne pas avoir déclanché plus.

Ton enthousiasme m'a donné envie, j'ai uploadé deux autres trésors: File:PtahTemple-Karnak-Sekhmet statue chapel.jpg et File:PtahTemple-Karnak-Sekhmet statue chapel-2.jpg. J'ai pris ces photos il y a quelques années dans le temple de Ptah à Karnak. Sans doute une de mes expériences les plus impressionnantes en Egype. Passer de ce pays écrasé de soleil dans une soudaine et fraiche pénombre, et être confronté à une statue en granit noir de 2 mètres de la terrible déesse lion, éclairée par un rai de lumière venant d'un simple trou dans le plafond. J'ai voulu y retourner en novembre l'année passée, mais des travaux étaient en cours, la chapelle était fermée par une grille en bois et aucun bakchich n'a pu la faire s'ouvrir.

Ces photos donnent une assez bonne impression, mais je veux la refaire cette photo. En 2005, j'avais un appareil moyen avec un mauvais objectif, j'ai maintenant un bon appareil avec un bon objectif et un très bon compact, je dois pouvoir refaire cette photo en beaucoup mieux. Otherwise they are difficult to track and it is hard to tell what the file is about without actually looking at it. According to this, this crown in the Leiden Museum dates to the 17th dynasty and came from one of the royal tombs at Dra Abu el-Naga...probably from Nubkheperre Intef's burial. Feel free to add other cats to it or to use it on French wikipedia. Sadly, there is almost no treasures dating to the 17th dynasty on Wikicommons. Is this the sarcophagus of pharaoh Antef Sékhemrê Oupmaât (Wepmaat Intef) or pharaoh Antef Sékhemrê Hérouhermaât? The description says 'Sékhemrê Hérouhermaât' but there are two different sarcophaguses for this king in the Louvre...so one must be for Sékhemrê Oupmaât, I think.
