Untagged Images: edit

Be sure to notify the uploader if you tag an image! -- Rüdiger Wölk 19:43, 10 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I am not sure exactly what image you are talking about, but I usually do. If there are a number of images, I only do one, though. --Benn Newman 21:24, 10 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Why have you been removing no source tags I have added and replacing them with no license tags? You should have just deleted them. --Benn Newman 00:59, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry edit

I am sorry that I disturbed you on IRC. I misunderstood a text regarding OTRS.

It will never happen again.

Please accept my humble apologies in the form of a muffin. --|EPO| 13:03, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! Though I asked for a cookie, that will work too. ;) --Benn Newman 13:04, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Welcome to the English Wikisource edit

Hi newmanbe.

About the book How to Think Like a Computer Scientist:

The book already exists in an electronic format (see the source link), and I'm trying to moving it to Wikisource respecting that format as faithfully as possible. The idea is to reproduce the book without major changes, and in the original book each chapter has a theme that contains a learning unit. Creating extra chapters would be to change the original work.

I thought Wikisource was trying to reproduce works as faithfully as possible to the original work, and I wanted to reproduce the original work, not to create a new book. That's why I didn't chose Wikibooks.

I would like you to consider this, and together we can try to find a way to conciliate the original work with the guidelines. What do you think ? --OsvaldoGago 11:35, 15 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

What I was really trying to get across was the page names. Instead of How to Think Like a Computer Scientist/Chapter 1: The way of the program, you should be using How to Think Like a Computer Scientist/Chapter 1. You don't remove, however, the chapter name from the work itself. Every page should also use the {{header}}. You are right that we don't want to change the source text. --Benn Newman 16:24, 15 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Ok. I'll do the suggested changes, thanks. --OsvaldoGago 01:01, 16 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your advice please. This map is displayed in public area in front of the school library main door. It is same as road sign or directory. Could I know which one copyright declaration is the best ? --OLAMB 04:38, 9 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I will reply at Image talk:HK Olympic Long Beach HKIOE floorplan.JPG. --Benn Newman 14:48, 9 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

You mean, should we add { {CopyrightedFreeUse} } for the mentioned photo ? --OLAMB 15:18, 9 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

No, it is a copyright violation. --Benn Newman 15:21, 9 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

What is the problem edit

Sorry if I broke a rule, but what is the problem with: Logo_ghi.png ? the preceding unsigned comment is by GHI (talk • contribs) 2007-06-08T20:29:56

The problem is that it is a logo. If you are the copyright holder, and really want to freely license the work, you may do so by following the instructions at Commons:Email templates. --Benn Newman 23:11, 9 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

White flags on white background (Image talk) edit

Please keep version with gray border for all flags with white edges - Wikig | talk to me | 08:02, 8 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Why? What is wrong with removing it and using the border attribute: [[Image:name.jpg|border]]? --Benn Newman 13:58, 8 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yep, you're right (I didn't know this feature), it is just that a lot of pages would have to be updated with the border attribute, such as F1 flags on French wiki for example - Wikig | talk to me | 10:30, 18 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well, I tried to update the above mentioned French page to see what it does when adding borders to bordeless flags. The flags with a black border align actually better as there is no extra border added on the black portion of the flags, thus a better aspect on the page. I definitely think we should keep that version as there are some versions without border already on Commons see : Category:Formula One flags. - Wikig | talk to me | 11:50, 18 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Image:Wikipedia-logo.svg edit

You did not actually vectorise the Wikipedia logo. Image:Wikipedia-logo.svg is just an SVG file that includes a reference to the PNG version. —Benn Newman 21:32, 9 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I know. I am very sorry for my mistake, I just installed Inkscape a few minutes ago. I tried every button I could think of on Inkscape, but I could not fix it. How do you convert PNG to SVG?  Tcrow777  talk  21:45, 9 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
I fixed it and I think I am ready to upload it, auto-traced it looks better then the original (I wonder how that happened). However, it is about 5 MB in size (when the original was about 400 KB in size).  Tcrow777  talk  18:12, 10 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Football crests edit

Hello,

from whom should I receive permissions if the copyright holder is no longer existant? The old FC Wacker is dead, SSW Innsbruck is dead, FC Swarovski is dead, FC Tirol also. So, what to do? VW33 19:27, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

There is probably nothing you can do. The logos are orphaned works. It is possible that the clubs aren't even the copyright owners. --Benn Newman 14:55, 19 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Benn! I thought this image [2] from flickr is suitable. BW, Mat86 22:54, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

It would be, but the up-loader does not have the rights to license it. Nintendo owns the copyright for the design of Link, not the photographer. It is a derivative work. —Benn Newman 01:10, 3 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

OTRS-ticket request edit

Hello. Could you please have a look on this e-mail exchange regarding the use of number of high-quality photos of IWI firearms? Some of them were tagged as unsourced (they are linked to this talk page) (despite the given "permission") and I wanted to ask someone with higher authority than mine to judge the situation.

Thanks in advance, Maggot666PL 16:14, 29 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

HELP! edit

Hi, earlier today i uploaded a logo of a political party which was removed by you. I don't understand how to upload pictures, i mean it is a political party logo therfore shouldn't it be public domain then? please help. also, which other ways can I upload pictures to the National Party (South Africa) article?

Thank you, wasabigreen 18:20 (CAT)

Hello. As a general rule, one assumes something is copyrighted. What this means is you have to find a reason for it to be public domain. That it is the logo of a political party is not reason for it to be public domain. Please see Wikipedia's fair use policy to see whether you can host it there. --Benn Newman (talk) 18:38, 27 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have uploaded and I agree you delete it, because I didn't make the correct place to upload. I am one of the murcian wiki's admin on wikia and I ask them for the creation of murcian wiki's logo and they made this one and it become the logo of the wiki. So I think I have rights to use this image. Thanks and forgive the inconvenience. --SaitamCDM (talk) 18:40, 16 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

We need your help at the Wikiproject medicine edit

Hello, Sorry for spaming your talk page, but this is very important. On the behalf of the Wikiproject medicine at the en.wikipedia, I am inviting you to be a part of the discussion going on the project's talk page about Patient images, The discussion started after I obtained a permission to more than 23000 dermatology related images, and about 1500 radiology images. As some editors of the Wikiproject medicine have some concerns regarding the policy of using patient images on wikipedia, and regarding patient consents. Also they believe that common's policy is not so clear regarding the issue. And since you are the experts please join us at this very important discussion -- MaenK.A.Talk 14:23, 20 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Your Incorrect Assumption edit

I am a producer for the film, I Am. You deleted a poster which I designed myself using a picture that I took of an actor from whom I have a release form. This is my work and only my work and I own full copyright to this image. I would appreciate your returning it to its rightful status. If you need further confirmation from any other producers, the directors, URMM, or 20th Century Fox, then please contact me.

Hello. To confirm this please either put the images on a website associated with I am stating the licensing conditions or send an e-mail (preferably using the text at Commons:OTRS#Declaration_of_consent_for_all_enquiries) to <permissions-commons-at-wikimedia.org> (preferably using an e-mail address associated with the work). --Benn Newman (talk) 23:48, 6 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
