Popski~commonswiki
Thank you for providing images to the commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on the commons must be under a free license and should be usefull to the wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:
- Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
- State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitely.
- If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
- Add a Copyright tag - images without a appropriate license tag will be deleted.
- Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate Categories, so it can be found by others.
If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki.
Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted.
For more Information, have a look at Commons:criteria for inclusion and the Community Portal. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the village pump. Thank you. -- Duesentrieb 02:25, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Hey, thanks for your thanks! Most people get annoyed when I'm picky about licensing and stuff - they don't seem to understand that free licenses are what keeps WikiMedia running... maybe I should phrase the above message a little friendlier...
- I think that is your phrase friedly enough, but some people are not... :)
Oh, that reminds me: it would be good if you could provide a link to where you got Image:Cobra side.jpg from. Generally, when you claim an image to be under license XYZ, and you did not create it yourself, you should provide information that allows others to verify that the image is indeed under that license. A link to the creator and/or to the source you got the image from is enough. But anyway, thaks that you provided detailed license info in the first place, many people fail to do even that :) Oh, and i like your rendering work - great pictures! -- Duesentrieb 13:45, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Actually I have created Cobra drawing, but the problem on www.openclipart.org is that take soooo long before is submited work available to public. At this very moment is still here but who knows how long will stay there and where will go after... :/ This is annoying and I already asked them about this: Why can't I find my submitted works?, but their answer is hmm, well... complicated. I also wanted to submit here on Commons original file cobra.svg, but here is another problem with SVG files as they said. I have this Cobra file also on my server here. I use this pictures in my new Wikibook. I am also glad that you like my renderings, thank you again!--Popski 17:20, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Link to your user page edit
I think it's good idea to add next link in your images: Igor Križanovskij. Just let know to others that User:Popski and Igor Križanovskij are same person :-). --EugeneZelenko 15:22, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Good point EugeneZelenko! I'll do it. Thank you!
File:Hycdwyl.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.File tagging File:Parma.jpg edit
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading File:Parma.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |
Your account will be renamed edit
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Popski. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Popski~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
