Hello Quartermaster!

Thanks for your contributions to the Commons. Unfortunately there is a problem with Pierson's Puppeteer.jpg, which caused me to nominate it for deletion.

File:Pierson's Puppeteer.jpg edit

File:Pierson's Puppeteer.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

You would reply on my talk page just like you did here. My concern is that although you created this creature you made it with copyrighted components of EA/Maxis. The EULA (which you agreed to when you installed the program) clearly defines what EA/Maxis claims copyright on (everything) and what you can do with it. There is no wording or indication that you can use images/art/creatures that you create with Spore for a commercial purpose. Commons requires all the images hosted here to be licensed under a license agreement that ALLOWS commercial use. Since the EULA doesn't explicitly give you the copyright rights to your creations for commercial purposes you couldn't license the image here for commercial purposes either. You can't compare Spore to Microsoft paint or photoshop since that type of program doesn't claim copyright ownership of your creations (although everything created in those may not be legally copyrighted to you, like you couldn't import and save an image someone else owns and then claim copyright over it). As for other games you stated like Second Life and World of Warcraft those are different. Second Life's business model depends on user content, but even their EULA gives them ownership over your content, likewise a screenshot from it likely will contain art/models/graphics that are not SOLELY the work of the person taking the screenshot, so copyright issues could come up from that. World of Warcraft is entirely different the user has no legal right or copyright over anything in the game, so screen shots of that would NOT be allowed on Commons, they could be used on Wikipedia provided they have a sufficient'fair use' claim and are scaled down to a small size. Hope that answers some of your questions. Raeky (talk) 21:45, 1 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Quartermaster!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

I do not think the workers were playing mah jong. I suppose they were playing a cheese game, may be w:Weiqi or w:Xiangqi.刻意 (talk) 19:00, 26 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hello, you have added a sexual image to Wikimedia Commons, unfortunately it seems like the consensus has been reached to delete that file. I would like to thank you for making this project develop and grow, but unfortunately not every image about sex is allowed to remain here. Do not feel disheartened, many other sexual images are kept here, and hopefully your future uploads will meet the criteria for inclusion. But i thought that you might be interested that there are projects which are more interested in sexually explicit and freely licenced material, like Freedom Porn which distributes its content under Free Art Licence or in public domain. You may want to check it out and see if you would be interested in uploading there as well as here. VolodyA! V Anarhist (talk)

This media was probably deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:Pierson's Puppeteer.png. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Pierson's Puppeteer.png) and the above demanded information in your request.

Thanks! edit

I used Colonel Steptoe's photo on Wikitree as I am writing a bio for him. Hope you are enjoying your 'trip around the world'!Dslcards (talk) 19:43, 18 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
