Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

kategoryzacja

Cześć. Fajnie, że dodajesz zdjęcia do Commons i je kategoryzujesz (część osób wrzuca zdjęcia i nie zadaje sobie trudu znalezienia innej kategorii niż ta, którą generuje szablon wiki loves monuments). Czasem jednak warto sprawdzić, czy nie ma już kategorii szczegółowszej. Np. wrzuciłeś kilkanaście zdjęć do Category:Łagów, tymczasem bardziej odpowiednie to Category:Łagów Castle, Category:Brandenburg Gate in Łagów itd. Te kategorie już miały szablon "zabytek" lub nie miały (wtedy należy go powstawiać do tych kategorii), a w takiej sytuacji nie ma po co umieszczanie takiego szablonu w opisie zdjęcia. Może zerknij, co zrobiłem z twoimi zdjęciami z Łagowa i spróbuj coś podobnego zrobić z innymi. Akurat Łagów jest historyczną wsią, więc już parę podkategorii miał. W czasie konkursu WLZ wgrano bardzo wiele zdjęć i nawet w sytuacji, gdy dotąd różnego typu kategorie nie były potrzebne (np. Category:Church towers in Lubusz Voivodeship), bo wystarczała kategoria bardzo ogólna (np. Category:Church towers in Poland), to teraz pewnie trzeba będzie je utworzyć (co właśnie zrobiłem w opisywanym przykładzie). Jeśli nie czujesz się wystarczająco pewnie, by tworzyć nowe kategorie (ja zacząłem to robić dopiero po paru latach wikiaktywności), to nie musisz ich robić, ale przynajmniej można przenieść zdjęcia do tych już istniejących, a szablon "zabytek" umieszczać tak, żeby jak najmniej rozdymał kategorię Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Poland with known IDs. Ponadto, zwykle w szablonie tym wpisywany jest poziom gminy. Oczywiście, nie jest to sztywna reguła i – zwłaszcza jeśli w danej gminie jest dużo zabytków nie tylko w jednej miejscowości – można wpisywać poziom miejscowości (a w przypadku W-wy, to wręcz poziom dzielnicy byłby odpowiedni). W przypadku Łagowa wydaje mi się, że wystarczy "gmina Łagów, lubuskie". Panek (talk) 14:00, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

Hello Silu, I am writing about the History of the "mental home" in Międzyrzecz, formerly known as "Heil- und Pflegeanstalt Obrawalde", where many mental disabled have been killed during the Nazi-era. Wniebowzięcia NMP w Zbąśzyniu – oczywiście po podaniu informacji dot. praw autorskich – zostało umieszczone na stronie naszego niekomercyjnego projektu << Kalendarza FVKS "W Podróży" 2013 >>. Motywem przewodnim są "wieże".
