Category:Kargaltsev deletion requests

Category explanation edit

Kargaltsev's photographic artworks sometimes include video stills from his video productions, snapshots of rehearsals and behind-the-scenes events for stage productions and gallery exhibitions, or a series of polaroid photographs and published test shots, later used for higher quality photographs. The apparent quality issue, along with the fact that many photographs attract attention as they are explicitly homoerotic or include nude models, means that some of the images have been put up for deletion, or speedy deletion, based on appearance without an investigation into the background of the artist. Often they are thought by nominators to be out of scope as they look like selfies or trashy nude snapshots, rather than creative works from an established LGBT artist. Being deliberately provocative photographs by a professional, there is no doubt about the model release, especially for works with nude models.

There has been one photograph deleted as a courtesy, after the same photograph was withdrawn from Kargaltsev's Flickrstream. Another photograph was deleted due to a misunderstanding over copyright. However the majority of deletion requests and speedy deletions have been kept after being challenged as the presumed project scope or nudity issues did not stand up to analysis.

Kargaltsev often uses himself as a model, along with casual photographs taken by polaroid or camera phone to give an insight into his life and work in New York. These photographs range from intimate personal shots to posed compositions and are often homoerotic, political, or provocatively sexual. All types and quality of photograph feature in his gallery exhibitions and publications.
