Discussion
Bot has edited previously without previous approval but with lower amount of work. For now I'd like to categorise over 4000 of files (here [1]) and I think it would be better to do so with bot flag. The bot has bot flag at Czech Wikipedia, Czech Wikiversity and Wikidata. Operator is a sysop&bureaucrat at Czech Wikipedia. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 14:58, 28 June 2017 (UTC) Edited --Martin Urbanec (talk) 15:05, 28 June 2017 (UTC)
- @Martin Urbanec: What is the need to add Category:Uploaded with Mobile/Android (Jul 2016 - Jun 2017), since all these files already are in Category:Uploaded with Mobile/Android? Was this discussed somewhere previously? XXN, 20:13, 28 June 2017 (UTC)
- @XXN: To easily analyze uploaders files uploaded by mobile between Jul 2016 and Jun 2017 :). @Vojtěch Dostál: can explain it more. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 20:18, 28 June 2017 (UTC)
- Discussed off-wiki at [2]. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 20:21, 28 June 2017 (UTC)
- Sorry, how does this help easily analyze uploaders files uploaded by mobile between Jul 2016 and Jun 2017? If this is not for Commons file mainenance, but only for some analysis project, then
I'm against adding this category. You can write a super simple SQL query to fetch all Category:Uploaded with Mobile/Android images that were uploaded in a certain date range. Ping me if you need help with that. --Dschwen (talk) 03:28, 29 June 2017 (UTC)- It allows to use Glamorous, Uploaders-in-cat and other tools which can only work with a category, not with a category and uploaded in certain date range. Yeah, I technically can add the feature to the tools, yeah, I technically can write the tool's main feature using SQL queries, but this looks like the easiest and the most user-friendly possibility for me (and users who asked me to do this). BTW the category is filled by Pywikibot's category.py using result from a SQL query. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 11:35, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
- It was me who asked for this category to be created and the rationale is in the linked GitHub discussion. It just seemed like the simplest option. --Vojtěch Dostál (talk) 11:48, 29 June 2017 (UTC)

- Support Ok, convinced. The number is sufficiently small (~20000) that a category would not be a huge pollution of out cat system. There is an immediate need. And if necessary we can remove the cats later. --Dschwen (talk) 14:06, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
Done. --Dschwen (talk) 00:30, 30 June 2017 (UTC)
