  •   Comment Normally in three-person crucifixion groups (Stabat Mater) the one person below Christ is his mother and the other one is “the disciple whom Jesus loved”, because St John’s Gosple states: “When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home” (John 19:26–27). This disciple is traditionally identified with John the Apostle, so probably this sculpture shows John the Apostle, too. --Aristeas (talk) 10:06, 18 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
