Info Male (Thalassoma pavo), Cape Palos, Spain. This species of wrasse is native to the rocky coasts of the eastern Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The ornate wrasse occurs in on rocky areas where there are growths of algae and sea grass beds. They are all female in their early life phase and the bigger ones (applies to all exemplars longer than 9-12 centimetres -3.5 to 4.7 in-) transform in males, reaching a maximal length of 12 centimetres (4.7 in). Ornate wrasses can be found at depths from 0 to 50 metres (0 to 164 ft).
