CHAPELLE DE SAINT-JANVIER.(Cira, de Prétextât.) 2/4 ÉLÉMENTS darchéologie CHRÉTIENNE. senter le Paradis. Parmi les plus anciennes allégories, noustrouvons la vigne et les saisons. La vigne se rencontre même dans les peintures sépulcralespaïennes. Elle avait donc une signification funéraire : lavendange exprimait la fin de la vie. Dans lart chrétien, ellereprésente certainement la vigne mystique, N.-S. Jésus-Christ:« Ego sum vitis vera » (), et même lEucharistie. Cest laplus ancienne allégorie peut-être : nous la voyons dans levestibule de Domitille et la chapelle dAmpliatus, et plustard à la voûte du mausolée de Ste-Constance (IV^ siècle).
