Title
109 BERK-4B25B4: Possible Pendant Fragment
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy medieval horse harness pendant dating to the medieval period. Shaped in the form of an equal-armed cross, the pendant has four lobed and rounded knops at the end of each arm. The central boss is round and raised. At the top of one of the knobs there appears to be evidence of a break where there was an attachment loop from which it would have been suspended. A complete example has been recorded for nearby (BERK-D1D801), while several similar, although not exact, examples have been recorded on this database; for example SWYOR-EC7637, WILT-C1C207 and WMID-B91B23. Harness pendants were common adornments for straps and harnesses during the medieval period and were often gilded, however this example does not retain any trace of such; this type of harness pendant dates from the 13th or 14th century AD.
