Description
English: Young Marines and Marines from Headquarters Battalion and Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe Bay help carry a log. More than 20 Young Marines from units in Florida, Kentucky and Washington joined the Pyramid Rock Young Marines and active-duty Marines to clean Fort Hase Beach, Dec. 4, 2013. Young Marine units annually travel to Hawaii to commemorate the anniversary of the Dec. 7 attacks by participating in a parade and wreath laying. This year they also participated in the basewide clean-up, Malama Ka Aina. Young Marine Sgt. Maj. Dakota Richter, the National Young Marine of the Year, from Florence, Ky., said the beach clean-up was the best form of community service and the group is grateful for the base’s hospitality. Young Marine Sgt. Maj. Storme DiGiovanni, 17, of Kailua, said the clean-up was a great opportunity for the Young Marines to come together for an activity, especially helping preserve the nature of Hawaii’s beaches.
