Title
14th century key
Description
English: A copper-alloy key of probable mid 14th century AD date. Late medieval Class VI key. It has a hollow stem of circular section which measures 9.6mm in diameter. A collar separates the stem from the bow. The bow is lozenge-shaped and has a lobe at the distal end and an internal lobe on each of the three other angles. The bow has, at some point, become broken in two. At the other end of the stem there is one intact bit and the remnant of a second. The surviving bit has two well-defined channels, one on each side. Overall, the object measures 98.5mm long, by 38.7mm wide at the bow, and up to 13.8mm thick at the collar. It weighs 46.61g and is corroded.
