Description |
English: Hooked belt mount. Sword belt fitting. Oval plate with a smaller sub circular plate (with a small knop at the end) at one end and a hook at the other. The plate is decorated with ring and dot and curvilinear patterns. The sub circular plate has a fixing hole in the centre and a concentric band of ring and dot stamping around it. At the other end of the main plate there is a raised transverse rib before the oval sectioned hook projects out. The hook is bent around towards the back of the plate in a circle. The hook tapers to a squared off end. At the back of the plate approx. 5mm from the hook projection is a small integral fixing (circular sectioned). The back of the plate is flat and undecorated.
Date: identified by Geoff Egan as 16th to early 17th century. |
