Title
15th Century copper-alloy buckle
Description
English: A copper-alloy buckle. This buckle has a distinctive 15th century design of a series of knops running around the outer edge of the frame, each having been drilled with a blind hole. The buckle is also decorated with engraved oblique grooves within a linear border. The reverse of the buckle is undecorated. Such buckles were often heavily tinned although no traces of this process remain on this example. The buckle is broken, missing two thirds of its frame and its strap bar. The buckle is almost identical to an example given in 'Buckles: 1250-1800' by Ross Whitehead.
