Description
Deutsch: Hagen an der Volme. Kolorierte Federzeichnung, 1750–1799. – Die oval geschnittene Zeichnung zeigt in der Bildmitte links die evangelisch-lutherische Johanniskirche. Rechts davor befindet sich das mit einem Glockenreiter besetzte Dach der Reformierten Kirche. Weiter rechts der Turm der Katholischen Kirche und links unten die Tuchmanufaktur Christian Moll. – Herkunft/Rechte: Stadtmuseum Hagen / Heike Wippermann (RR-R). – Geographische Beschreibung von 1725: „Hagen liegt in einer lustigen Gegend an einem kleinen, innavigablen Flusse, Vollme genannt.“ Das Wasser der Volme wie der Brunnen in Hagen ist klar, rein, gesund und von gutem Geschmack. An Fischen führt die Volme besonders Forellen und Gründlinge; „zu sicheren Jahres- und Herbstzeiten“ werden auch die aus dem Rhein und Ruhr aufsteigenden Lachse hier häufig gefangen. Die Stadt liegt mit ihrer geringen Feldmark in einer Ebene und ist rings von Bergen umgeben. Bevölkerungsstatistik 1722: 675 Personen, 137 Hauswirte. 1765: 1352 Personen. 1776: 293 Hauswirte. 1798: 1780 Personen (aus: Die Grafschaft Mark von A. Meister, Münster 1909).
