Title
18th century Dandy button
Description
English: A complete copper alloy dandy button dating to the 18th century.

The object is circular in plan and flat in profile. The front of the button is ornately decorated with a border of 22 indented pellets with two inner borders of very small incised pellets before a ring of nine more larger indented pellets surrounding a singular central pellet. The entire face of the button shows evidence for gilding although this has worn away in areas clearing showing the copper alloy fabric. The back of the button shows evidence of the central attachment. There is also clear evidence for gilding on this side. Gordon Bailey (2004) dates dandy buttons to the 18th century.
