Description |
English: Roman copper-alloy slide key. The key has a loop with a diameter of 16mm, and with three rounded knops placed equidistantly around it. The handle is rectangular, 36mm long, 21mm wide and 12mm thick. It is decorated with three bands of evenly spaced raised mouldings consisting of a broad central moulding flanked by a narrow moulding at each side. Below this emerges a shaft, 8mm in diameter and 12mm long. The bit emerges from this at an angle of 90 degrees and consists of a rectangular sectioned shaft 38mm long and 9mm wide. The shaft is 20mm deep and has two cut away sections (clefts) 3mm wide, leaving one tooth. Next to this is another tooth which has a circular section and is divided by two diagonal lines which forms four triangles. The key terminates with a small protrusion at the base of the circular shaft, which is 7mm thick but which has snapped off. The key is 81mm long, 42mm wide and weighs 100g. The object is in good condition with an even green patina. |
