English: Fragment of copper alloy Roman brooch. This fragment represents part of the foot and catchplate from a 1st century Roman bow brooch. What remains is the straight foot section that would have run from the bow, the foot knob and a complete solid curled catchplate. The remains of the foot are decorated with a centrally raised rib, flanked by a raised rib on the very edges either side. The foot knob is moulded so as to appear wasted, with an integral collar where it meets the bottom of the foot. The breaks are worn smooth and similarly patinated to the rest of the object, suggesting damage occurred in antiquity. The fragment is heavily abraded with a mid green patina, mottled with lighter yellowy green. It is 38.1mm long, 4.12mm wide across the foot, 10.97mm wide across the catchplate and weighs 2.33g.
