English: BURNHAM HOARD 2010 T509: Item A.8 Socketed Axe; South Eastern - Plain (Petters type A.1)

cast copper alloy socketed axe head. There is a wide upper mouth moulding with a narrower moulding below. The side loop extends from the lower moulding. There are casting seams visible on both sides. The sides are concave, expanding out slightly at the blade end. There is a small amount of damage to the blade tip. The mouth opening is almost rounded, whilst the body is rectangular in cross section.

Length:84.11mm. Weight: 128.04 grams. Socket opening: 25.75mm by 24.04mm. Socket mouth: 33.43mm by 32.90mm. Loop: 19.22mm long, 4.61mm wide; located 10.54mm from mouth opening. Body: 23.50mm wide by 18.74mm thick. Cutting edge: 33.45mm
