Title |
2011 T22 Unidentified Object from the Isle of Wight |
||
Description |
English: An Early-Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) flat heart-shaped object, slightly misshapen. The front is decorated at either side with single scrolls closely comparable with those on Quoit Brooch Style objects, such as the square quoit brooch from High Down, Sussex, and has punched lines and marks along the vertical centre-line and around the edges (S. Suzuki, 2000, The Quoit Brooch Style and Anglo-Saxon Settlement, Woodbridge, pl. 36, fig. 37). The rear face is plain. There is probably a break at the bottom. 9.0 x 7.1 x 0.5mm. Weight: 0.25g.
The find contains a minimum of 10% silver and predates 1711. It thus qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996 in terms of precious metal content and age. |
