234191. Late neolithic to early Bronze Age discoidal flint scraper |
||
Description |
English: A large, discoidal flint scraper. Light grey-brown flint with a low-gloss patina. Sub circular in shape and made on a secondary flake. The dorsal face is convex and has a small strip of coretex on the right edge. The dorsal face has several flaking scars from earlier working of the core from which the flake was struck. The ventral face has a low bulb of percussion with a large bulbar scar at the proximal end. At the edge of the proximal end is a narrow striking platform. The edge of the scraper has been worked with a fine retouch almost all the way around. The only unworked area is a stretch running from the start of the cortex strip, across the striking platform and about a centimetre beyond. At the distal end the scraper is thickened and steep. This area is also extensively worked.
