Title
254 BERK-09E6E3: Medieval Ampula
Description
English: A medieval lead alloy pilgrim's ampulla, missing only the side loops. On the front there is a raised circle with what appears to be a crown above but it is somewhat indistinct. On the reverse there is a scallop shell pattern. The use of crowns above mongrams or letters was common on pilgrim's ampullas of the 15th century (Spencer 1990:38) and are not easily attributed to particular shrines. Circa mid 14th to 15th Century AD.
