Title
273b BERK-493CD2: Other side of Roman Votive Axe
Description
English: A complete Romano British copper alloy votive model axe. The model is two-diemsional and consists of a broadly rectangular axe head with expanded cutting edge and narrowing butt; the simple handle shaft projects a little above the axe head and extends below before terminating in an old break. Axes, mainly from shrines and graves, form the largest group of miniature tools in found from Roman Britain. The form of the head is similar to examples in Green (1975) Archaeological Journal. 132, fig.2, nos.7 and 20, see also Green (1976), 42 and Plate XXVIII n, and (1978), 32.
