Title
2E3F01 roman key
Description
English: Roman copper-alloy key handle. It is a fleur-de-lys type of handle and has three rounded lobes, with a small rounded knop on the upper edge of the upper lobe. The lobes sit on a rectangular collar which is decorated with two horizontal moulded ridges. The handle has snapped at this point and has some further damage. It is 40mm long, 26mm wide, 6mm thick and weighs 13.62g. The object is in good condition with a green patina. A similar key handle, but with a pair of leaves at the base of the fleur-de-lys is known from excavations in Colchester (Crummy 1983, 126 no. 4161 fig. 142).
