Description |
English: A cast, copper alloy, asymmetrical two-piece shoe or knee buckle with a drilled frame for a separate spindle, c.1660-1720. One loop is rectangular and the other is curved, with an inward projection making the space inside vesica shaped. The buckle is slightly curved and there is a thickening in each side of the frame to accommodate the spindle. Decoration consists of four short, transverse grooves on each side of the buckle, two before and two after the thickening for the spindle. The buckle has a dark brown patina. It is 23.1mm long, 20.6mm wide and 4.1mm thick. It weighs 2.86gm. Reference: Whitehead, Buckles 1250-1800, p.97, No.597. |
