Title
638 12 flints mainly Brone Age view 2.jpg
Description
English: 12 lithic implements

1, Leaf-shaped arrowhead, length 21mm, width 8mm, thickness 4mm. One arise on the dorsal, flat ventral with the bulb of percussion on the butt, low sub-parallel, sub-angular retouch along the two long edges, rounded off tip. Off white patina. Date Neolithic.
2, Piercer, length 24mm, width 26mm, thickness 12mm. Multiple flakes from the dorsal and ventral, 5%cortex on the butt and the right tip. The forward edge has been knapped to produce a protrusion 6mm wide and 7mm long, this is very crudely knapped. Dark grey flint, patina has just started to form. Date Bronze Age.
3, Semi-circular scraper, length 21mm, width 27mm, thickness 7mm. Bifacial retouch along the forward edge and sides, the dorsal side has crude scaled long retouch whilst the ventral has stepped, short retouch. Dark brown flint with a creamy patch. Date Bronze Age.
4, Side scraper, length 29mm, width 26mm, thickness 9mm. Cortex covering 70% of the cortex. Abrupt, scaled, direct down one site. Remains of a bulb of percussion on the ventral. There are the remains of a patina only on the ventral, the rest has a dark brown flint with lighter mottling. Date Bronze Age.
5, Thumb nail scraper, length 14mm, width 20mm, thickness 7mm. Cortex covering 70% of the dorsal. Semi-circular scraper on the forward edge, the retouch is semi-abrupt, stepped and direct, there is a concave scraper towards the rear end of the left side, with abrupt, scaled retouch. Dark grey flint. Date Bronze Age.
6, Awl, length 31mm, width 19mm, thickness 5mm. Bulb of percussion on the ventral, flat dorsal. Retouch along the top edge that creates a point on the right side. Off white patina the retouch has removed the patina exposing light brown flint, therefore this is a reused artefacts. Date of original tool uncertain, date of reuse is probably Bronze Age.
7, Miscellaneous retouched piece, length 23mm, width 15mm, thickness 4mm. Two arises on the dorsal, the ventral is flat with the bulb of percussion missing. There is abrupt retouch to the left side and inverse, short retouch on the right. This is a reused tool with a light blue patina, there retouch has exposed dark grey flint, the butt is truncated as is the tip. This may have originally been a truncated blade, possibly dating to the Neolithic, and may have been reused in the Bronze Age.
8, Probable thumb nail scrapper, length 13mm, width 18mm, thickness 4mm. Bifacial, short, stepped retouch along the forward and right side. The dorsal and ventral is flat. Patina has started to form over a grey flint, the butt is truncated which has removed the patina. Date Bronze Age.
9, Miscellaneous retouched piece, length 23mm, width 26mm, thickness 10mm. Direct retouch on side this retouch is very worn. Very dark brown/black thick patina with creamy patches, the tips of the left and right side have broken exposing grey flint. The date of this flint is uncertain but the ware and colour of the patina may suggest a Late Palaeolithic date.
10, Semi-circular scraper, length 25mm, width 27mm, thickness 12mm. There is a part of the cortex covering the butt and about 105 of the dorsal, invasive flaking scars covering the ventral and dorsal. Long, semi-abrupt, direct retouch along the front and sides. Dark brown flint with lighter grey mottling. Date Bronze Age.
11, Sub-rectangular scraper, length 25mm, width 21mm, thickness 7mm. The bulb is missing from the ventral, the dorsal is flat. Semi-abrupt, direct, stepped retouch along the left and the right sides and the butt. The top edge has been retouched to form a concave scraper. Grey colour with white speckles. Date probably Bronze Age.
12, Miscellaneous retouched piece, length 18mm, width 19mm, thickness 5mm. Sub-rectangular shape, the forward edge and both sides have been retouched with bifacial, short, stepped flak removal. Off white patina, the retouch has removed the patina exposing dark grey flint. Date prehistoric.
