Title
8 maravedis (reverse)
Description
English: Copper alloy 8 maravedis of Felipe III (1598-1621) of Spain, but countermarked later under Felipe IV's reign (1621-1665) as an 8 and then a 12 maravedis 'resellado' which means 'resealed' or 'restruck'.

On the obverse, it has been re-stamped with a VIII and an XII to revalue it as 8 and 12 maravedis, and on the reverse it has another VIII over the lion in the crowned shield and above the date of 1636, which was when it was restruck initially as a 12 maravedis, and then there is a 1654 stamped upside down and above the VIII, when it was restruck as an 8 maravedis.

Cayon (2005) illustrates similar examples of 8 maravedis resellado on page 631, Nos.38-39, which are stamped 1654, and 12 maravedis resellado on page 635, No.42, which are stamped 1636.
