Title
AWL
Description
English: The ventral face has a bulb and bulbal scar. The proximal butt is flat on the left and rounded about the bulb on the right. The distal tip has cortex. The dorsal face has a central ridge with flake removals to either side. The margins are "pinched" towards each other and there is some suggestion of "pecked" retouch, the left dorsal margin may have been retouched from the ventral face. The awl tip has retouch on both sides.

The flint is dark grey in colour with white cortex. It is probably derived from a local beach pebble but this is difficult to confirm with only tertiary cortex.

Mercer (1981) illustrates a similar piece on Page 135 Fig 59 No L155 which he calls a piercer and dates to the Neolithic.
