Title
AXEHEAD
Description
English:

A bifacially flaked flint axe fragment made on a weathered, thin and elongate tabular nodule. Both faces retain areas of worn chalky cortex, but have been modified by broad, shallow irregular flaking to form an irregular lenticular cross section. the piece represents the butt-end of the axe and tapers to a blunt point at the butt-end. One margin has a straight midline edge, the other side is more irregular; both edges have evidence of grinding and polishing, but this is limited in extent and does not extend over either face. The piece may have been broken in use, a bi-faceted cross body break has recurved or hinged c.90 degrees to remove a substantial shallow flute from one face. Exposed surfaces are recortificated white with semi-gloss patina. there are some re-brown ferrous stains, mainly along flake scar ridges.

Date: Neolithic 4000 BC to 2351 BC.

Dimensions: 98.5mm x 60mm x 28mm.

Weight: 159g.
