Title |
A Medieval, single loop, rectangular buckle. |
||
Description |
English: A cast copper alloy, single loop rectangular buckle of Medieval date, AD 1300 - 1500. It is similar to Meols type C buckles which date from the late 14th century. The sides of the frame are convex, the strap bar is narrowed and offset, and the broad outer edge of the frame has three transverse grooves in the centre. The hinges of the missing plate have worn the bar, leaving a thicker area in the centre where the pin was attached (also now missing). The buckle has a light brown patina. It is 15.6mm long, 13.3mm wide and 3mm thick. It weighs 1.18gm.
A similar buckle is illustrated in Whitehead, 2003, Buckles 1250 - 1800, page 27, number 135. |
