A Medieval – Post Medieval lead alloy button (late 15th – 16th century).
Description
English: A Medieval – Post Medieval lead alloy button (late 15th – 16th century). The button has a lozenge-shaped, solid head with a pyramid-shaped cross-section. The upper surface of the head is decorated with four engraved lozenges with central pellets arranged with the points extending into the points of the head. On the reverse is the shank which is semi-circular with the perforation for attachment.

A similar shaped button with slightly different decoration is illustrated in Read (2005:30 no.96) and dated from the late 15th century – the 16th century.

Dimensions: length: 10.68mm; width: 10.38mm; thickness: 10.95mm; weight: 2.73g.
