Description |
English: A Medieval - Post Medieval cast copper alloy knife handle terminal dating to the late 15th – 16th century. This terminal has been cast in one-piece to resemble a claw hammer-head. There is a slot in one end to accommodate the tang of the scale tang blade. There are the corroded iron remains of the tang still present in the slot. There are engraved details on the terminal; a line forming a border around the base; another line to show the detail of the claw of the hammer and a transverse line across the top of the hammer.
A similar knife handle terminal in the form of a claw hammer-head has been recorded in Surrey SUR-A8DD06. Dimensions: length: 14.49mm; width: 19.19mm; thickness: 8.04mm; weight: 6.92g. |
